Former first lady Michelle Obama has been staying out of the spotlight since leaving the White House, but on Sunday night, she released a minute-long clip on BET urging women of color to vote this November.
In the clip, Obama said, “We’ve all seen the difference we can make when we choose to cast our ballots.” She also seemed to take a stab at President Donald Trump, saying, “We’ve seen the consequences when we don’t bother to show up to the polls.”

Her husband, former President Barack Obama, kicked off his campaign to get Democrats elected with a speech last Friday in which he criticized Trump for his bumbling response to the violence in Charlottesville.
Michelle will also be making a few appearances with the group “When We All Vote” — the same group that put together the video. She is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas on September 23 for the group’s inaugural event.
Michelle has been living the dream for the past few months, popping up in Paris at a Beyonce concert and generally staying away from the world of politics. Michelle and Barack are currently back in D. C. where they spent a few million on a home in the city’s swanky Kalorama neighborhood and Barack Obama has been working with his foundation.
It’s basically unheard of for a president and first lady to stay in Washington once their tenure in the White House is over, the Washington Post notes that such an occurrence hasn’t happened since Woodrow Wilson in 1921. But they’ve said that they’ll stay in the swamp at least until their youngest daughter graduates from high school in 2019.
