South American’s largest country has 2 million cases. Experts say the true number is likely higher.
Brazil counted its 2 millionth confirmed coronavirus infection Thursday following an acceleration of the disease in the country over the past month that has left it second only to the United States for total cases and fatalities and the target of withering criticism for the government’s response to the pandemic.
“The virus would have been difficult to stop anyway. But this milestone of 2 million cases, which is very underestimated, shows this could have been different,” Adriano Massuda, a professor in São Paulo told AP.
