SOUTHWEST, Fla. – Last week, former Barron Collier running back Drew Powell learned his freshman football season at Cornell University was over before it began.
« I’m trying to stay positive about it, » Powell said.
Last Thursday, the Ivy League announced none of its schools would be able to compete in fall sports because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
« Obviously there is a lot of disappointment, » he said. « I wanted to get back on that field as soon as possible. I miss it. It’s mind boggling. »
Powell said he will still be on-campus when classes start, but for now, his first college football season is on hold.
