SOUTHWEST, Fla. — Last week, former Barron Collier running back Drew Powell learned his freshman football season at Cornell University was over before it began.
«I’m trying to stay positive about it,» Powell said.
Last Thursday, the Ivy League announced none of its schools would be able to compete in fall sports because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
«Obviously there is a lot of disappointment,» he said. «I wanted to get back on that field as soon as possible. I miss it. It’s mind boggling.»
Powell said he will still be on-campus when classes start, but for now, his first college football season is on hold.
