DualShock 4 Controllers Can't Be Used to Play PS5 Games

Sony confirms its current-gen controller won’t work with next-gen games, but other peripherals will function.
(Image: Sony) Every PlayStation 5 will ship with a controller in the box, but anyone thinking they can use existing DualShock 4 controllers as a backup or second pad are set to be disappointed. As IGN reports, Sony has confirmed that PS5 games can’t be played with PS4 controllers. In a post on the PlayStation. Blog, Sony answered a series of questions regarding which PS4 peripherals and accessories are compatible with PS5. In response to the question “Will DualShock 4 work with PS5 games?” Sony explained, “No, we believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller.” It’s not all bad news, though. The DualShock 4 (and other third-party PS4 controllers) can be used to play supported PS4 games on the new consoles.
