Raleigh, N.C. — The anniversary of George Floyd’s death under the knee of a Minneapolis police officer is expected to be marked Tuesday with reflection, enlightenment and change. The George Floyd Memorial Center got an early start on the remembrances by hosting a virtual “Enlightenment & Purpose Rally” on Monday afternoon. The event provided people an opportunity to discuss how Floyd’s death on May 25, 2020, changed them and gave them tools to shift from protests over the death to action to change policies. “What can we do to make his life more victorious? Changing hurt to hope,” Floyd’s uncle, Roger Floyd, said after the event.
