Bay Area tech giant Google finally announces ChatGPT killer Bard

Googleplex, the corporate headquarters complex of Google and its parent company Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai wrote, “We re-oriented the company around AI six years ago.” 
The ChatGPT craze swept across the internet in 2022. Now, it has provoked one of the Bay Area’s defining tech giants to action.
Google, based in Mountain View, announced its rival AI service on Monday in a note from CEO Sundar Pichai. Open to “trusted testers” ahead of a broader launch within a few weeks, Bard is a conversational platform built on Google’s long-gestating artificial intelligence technology.

The announcement is the latest salvo in a growing battle over AI, with major stakes for internet users, Bay Area companies and — proponents say — the future of society. OpenAI’s ChatGPT captured the internet’s attention after its November launch and reportedly caused a “code red” at Google, which has poured billions into AI research over the past half-decade.
