Press Release: SK hynix Inc. announced today that it has completed development and finished preparation of HBM4, a next-generation memory product for ultra-high performance AI, for mass production for the first time.
SK hynix said that the company has completed development, and based on this technological achievement, the company has prepared HBM4 mass production to lead the AI era. Through this momentum, the company has once again proven its AI memory leadership in the global market.
“Completion of HBM4 development will be a new milestone for the industry,” Joohwan Cho, Head of HBM Development at SK hynix, who has led the development, said. “By supplying the product that meets customer needs in performance, power efficiency, and reliability promptly, the company will fulfill time to market and maintain a competitive position.”
With the recent dramatic increase in AI demand and data processing, the need for high bandwidth* memory for faster system speed is surging. In addition, securing memory power efficiency has emerged as a key requirement for customers as power consumption for data center operation has increased. SK hynix expects HBM4, with increased bandwidth and power efficiency, to be the optimal solution to meet customers’ needs.
HBM4, of which the mass production system has been readied, has the industry’s best data processing speed and power efficiency, with the bandwidth doubled through the adoption of 2,048 I/O terminals, double from the previous generation, and power efficiency improved by more than 40%. The company expects to improve AI service performance by up to 69% when the product is applied, which will lead to solving the data bottleneck and significantly reducing data center power costs.
The company has far exceeded the JEDEC standard operating speed(8Gbps) by implementing an over 10Gbps(Gigabit per second) operating speed in HBM4.

The Airbus A350 is one of the most modern airliners in today’s skies. The wide-bodied A350 is a technologically advanced, long-haul airliner that directly competes with Boeing offerings like the 777 and the 787 Dreamliner. Indeed, it was Boeing’s development of the Dreamliner that prompted Airbus to develop the A350. Initially, Airbus proposed that the plane would be a re-engined and re-winged version of its A330 airliner. However, a lack of market backing in the project saw Airbus taking the plunge and developing the A350 from scratch. This gave the company a blank canvas on which to let its engineers run loose. The result was a highly advanced aircraft that considerably improved passenger and crew comfort. Importantly, it also gave airliners an aircraft that was highly efficient, delivering 25% fuel savings when compared to older aircraft like the Boeing 777 range.
Ultimately, it was the decision to design the plane from scratch that enabled the advancements that place the Airbus A350 as one of the best airliners for long flights. This approach sidestepped the compromises that often have to be made when upgrading an existing model — Boeing’s troubled 737 Max program is an extreme example of how badly this can go wrong. As the publication notes, a change in the company’s agreement paves the way for OpenAI to transition into a public benefit corporation, a type of corporation that’s meant to make a positive impact on society, and for an eventual IPO. OpenAI had to reach an acceptable agreement with Microsoft first, including how much equity it’s getting in the AI firm’s for-profit arm. Microsoft had invested over $13 billion into OpenAI and is entitled to 49 percent of its future profits.

After Christmas in 2024, it officially announced its plan to transform itself into a public benefit corporation with ordinary shares of stock. „It will enable us to raise the necessary capital with conventional terms like others in this space“, it said at the time. In May, however, OpenAI announced that it was no longer going to remove the control of its for-profit arm from its non-profit board. „OpenAI was founded as a nonprofit, and is today overseen and controlled by that nonprofit.
