Barry Manilow will be having surgery to remove a cancerous spot on his lung and will reschedule his January concerts, the singer announced Monday.
Manilow, 82, said doctors found the cancer after he had an extended bout of bronchitis — six weeks, then a relapse of another five weeks.
“My wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure that everything was OK,” Manilow wrote on Instagram. “The MRI discovered a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed. It’s pure luck (and a great doctor) that it was found so early.”
The singer added that doctors don’t believe cancer has spread, so for now he expects “No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and ‘I Love Lucy’ reruns.”
A statement issued by Manilow’s representatives specified that the spot was a stage one tumor, and that the surgery would take place in late December.
Manilow will be recovering for the month of January and plans to return to action with Valentine’s weekend concerts beginning Feb. 12 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino, and then his arena concerts will resume Feb. 28 in Tampa, Florida.
Manilow was due to perform 10 concerts in January at nine locations in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Ohio. They will now be held in February.

Rob Reiner and wife Michele’s loved ones gather a week after deaths as son faces murder charges

0

Rob Reiner’s brother, Lucas Reiner, photographed arriving at family home as loved ones come together one week after the Hollywood director and his wife’s Michele’s deaths.
Close friends and family are continuing to mourn the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.
On Sunday, just one week after Nick Reiner was arrested for murdering his parents in their Brentwood, California, home, Lucas Reiner — the brother of the late Hollywood director — was photographed arriving at their sister Annie’s Los Angeles home along with various friends and family members.
The extended family members were seen hugging one another as they gathered together.
On Sunday, Dec. 14, police discovered the bodies of Rob and Michele in the primary bedroom of their home in Brentwood, California. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiners‘ office later said that they died due to multiple sharp force injuries.
Nick was quickly named a person of interest in the investigation, and hours later, around 9:15 p.m. local time that same day, he was arrested.
The night before the murders, family friends of the Reiners told the Los Angeles Times that Nick got into an argument with his parents at O’Brien’s Christmas party. Many people noticed Nick was behaving strangely, according to the outlet.
„Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous“, a source also told People magazine.
On Dec. 16, authorities charged Nick in the double homicide of his parents. He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders.
„He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife“, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said during a press conference. „These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty.“
No decision has been made on whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty.
However, if the death penalty is pursued, Nick would not be executed due to the moratorium instituted by California Governor Gavin Newsom in 2019.
While the executive order did not repeal capital punishment in California, it has halted all executions indefinitely, Oakland criminal defense lawyer Jo-Anna Nieves told Fox News Digital.
„The executive order issued by Gavin Newsom halted executions, closed the execution chamber at San Quentin, and paused lethal-injection protocols, but it did not repeal the death penalty or invalidate death sentences imposed by courts“, Nieves said. „California still has the death penalty on the books, and prosecutors are legally permitted to seek it in eligible cases.“
„Practically speaking, even if prosecutors pursue the death penalty against Nick Reiner and obtain a conviction and death sentence, no execution would occur under the current moratorium“, she added. „The sentence would legally exist, but its enforcement would remain suspended unless the moratorium is lifted by a future governor or the law is changed through legislation or voter action.“
The moratorium, however, could be overturned once a new governor is elected in 2026.
During Tuesday’s press conference, Hochman also told reporters that they will take the „thoughts and desires of the family into consideration“ when it comes to Nick’s sentencing.
Nick made his first court appearance in the case on Dec. 17, where his lawyer, famed defense attorney Alan Jackson, requested a continuance. He only spoke once: when the judge asked if he agreed to delay his arraignment, he said, „Yes, Your Honor.“
His arraignment is now set for Jan. 7.

Barry Manilow’s Husband: Get to Know Garry Kief & Learn About His Past Marriage

0

Here’s what to know about Barry Manilow’s husband, Garry Kief, and his past marriage to Susan Deixler.
Barry Manilow is an iconic singer and songwriter with a career that spans decades, and over 50 top 40 Adult Contemporary Chart singles under his belt. He’s a winner of Tony and Grammy Awards, multiple Emmy and American Music Awards, and he boasts a coveted star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2002, he was inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame.
But what has Barry’s life been like behind the curtain? The world-famous performer married TV executive Garry Kief in 2014 after a decades-long romance during which they waited for same-sex marriage to become legal in California. Prior to that, he had a short-lived marriage in the 1960s.
Here’s everything to know about Barry Manilow’s husband and his past marriage to Susan Deixler.
Barry met Garry Kief, the man who would become both his spouse and his manager, in 1978. According to a 2017 interview with People, Barry knew at the outset that the relationship would be serious. “I knew that this was it,” he said at the time. “I was one of the lucky ones. I was pretty lonely before that. … Garry didn’t know what I did, even though I had all these records out. He was a guy, and I was a guy, so we could just deal with each other like two normal people, not like a superstar and a person.”
They married in April of 2014, in an intimate ceremony at their 53-acre Palm Springs estate, making what he said was already a serious commitment legal. “We’ve been married all these years,” he told People as the relationship became public. “It’s just that it became legal.” And he admitted the experience was “emotional.” “I didn’t think it was going to be that emotional,” he told People. “It was deeper than we thought it was going to be, looking at each other, saying, ‘I love you’ in front of people.”
Garry has one daughter, Kirsten, who was just a year old when the couple first met. In a 2017 interview with Michael Cavacini, Barry opened up about raising a daughter. “Garry and I have been together going on 40 years, and we raised a daughter,” he shared. “She turned out to be a great, beautiful girl … Our relationship and my being gay — I’ve always been a proud gay man. I’ve always been very proud of Garry and I.”
Garry, whom Barry says is “the smartest person I’ve ever met in my life — and a great guy, too,” is the CEO of Stiletto Entertainment. He’s also worked with Lorna Luft and musician Matt Dusk, among others.
Barry’s first marriage was to his high school sweetheart and Brooklyn native Susan Deixler in 1964. They married by a justice of the peace, followed by a solemnization by a rabbi. At the time, she was 19, and he was 20. According to his 2017 interview with People, Barry admitted that he was in love with her, despite the marriage only lasting one year before it was annulled in 1966. “I was in love with Susan,” he told the outlet. “I just was not ready for marriage.” He also said he hadn’t yet begun to struggle with his sexuality when he married her.
“I was out making music every night, sowing my wild oats — I was too young,” he explained of the brief union, during which they resided in an apartment in Greenwich Village. “I wasn’t ready to settle down.” In his 1987 autobiography Sweet Life, Barry called Susan the “perfect wife” and admitted that “Even my friends thought I was rushing into it.”
According to Heavy, Susan never remarried after her marriage to Barry ended. She now works to provide in-home care services for senior citizens and has two adult children.
In 2015 comments, she revealed that she was happy for Barry. “I wish him well,” she told the Daily Mail at the time. “I’m happy for him. I’m glad that he’s found love and happiness.” Susan added that their relationship is decades in the past. “What happened between us, our relationship, is ancient history, and I don’t want to dig back into ancient history,” she said. “It’s 50 years ago. You have to remember that I’m not a celebrity. I have children, a life … all that was a long time ago. I’m a private person, but I’m happy for him. I really am.”

Report: Starship Debris Came Closer to Airplanes Than SpaceX Admits

0

A new report by the Wall Street Journal reveals a failed SpaceX Starship test flight endangered three airplanes.
SpaceX’s test flight of Starship forced the rerouting of several passenger flights earlier this year, with visible sightings of falling rocket debris, according to documents obtained by The Wall Street Journal.
Starship lifted off on January 16 from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Texas. The rocket’s seventh test flight did not go according to plan; Starship’s upper stage suffered an engine glitch that forced an early shutdown, causing it to break apart and rain down bits of rocket debris over Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) documents reveal that the rocket’s mishap posed an “extreme safety risk” for three airplanes with a total of 450 passengers on board, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Air traffic controllers rerouted several airplanes to ensure their safety. The three flights, including a JetBlue plane headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, were forced to fly through a temporary no-fly debris zone in order to avoid the risk of running out of fuel. Additionally, two planes were forced to fly close to one another and faced a risk of collision.
SpaceX responded to the Wall Street Journal report, calling it misleading.Flight risk
Starship’s Flight 7 test caused significant disruptions to air traffic in the Caribbean region, but it wouldn’t be the first time the rocket has forced the rerouting or delays of commercial airplanes.
Before soaring to new heights with its 10th test flight in August, SpaceX’s Starship suffered an unfortunate losing streak, breaking apart upon reentry following one launch after another. Earlier in March, Flight 8 was cut short minutes after liftoff by a hardware failure in one of the Raptor engines. Starship exploded, prompting the FAA to halt air traffic in parts of Florida. Qantas Airlines was also reportedly forced to delay several flights between Australia and South Africa earlier this year due to warnings from U.S. authorities that covered a large portion of the Indian Ocean.
The recently acquired FAA documents offer the most detailed look at the chaos that often looms behind those disruptions. SpaceX allegedly failed to immediately call an official hotline to inform air traffic controllers of the failure, the FAA claims. Air traffic controllers in Miami were reportedly informed of the falling rocket debris when pilots reported sightings and had to navigate through it, according to the Wall Street Journal report.
SpaceX, however, denied the claims. “The reporters were clearly spoon-fed incomplete and misleading information from detractors with ulterior motives,” the company wrote on its X account. “At best, it shows a complete lack of understanding of the robust tools used by safety officials to manage airspace, which are well-defined, science-based, and have been highly effective at protecting public safety.”
“To be clear, for every Starship flight test, public safety has always been SpaceX’s top priority. No aircraft have been put at risk and any events that generated vehicle debris were contained within pre-coordinated response areas developed by [the U.S. Space Force] and implemented by [the FAA],” SpaceX continued. “These hazard areas cover a conservatively broad region, and any aircraft were appropriately routed in real-time around where debris was contained within the larger pre-coordinated hazard area.”
SpaceX plans to increase Starship’s flight cadence as it pushes forward with the development of its megarocket, and it continues to assert that public safety remains a priority. The rocket’s test flights, however, seem to tell a different story.

Portugal court orders far-right Chega to remove anti-Roma posters

A Lisbon court has ordered Portugal’s far-right Chega party to take down street posters targeting the Roma community.
A Lisbon court has ordered Portugal’s far-right Chega party to take down street posters targeting the Roma community, ruling that the messages are discriminatory and could incite hatred.
Judge Ana Barão gave party leader André Ventura 24 hours to remove the posters or face a fine of €2,500 per poster per day, saying the wording „attacks an ethnic minority“ and deepens stigma and prejudice against Roma people.
Chega, which has rapidly risen to become Portugal’s second-largest parliamentary force, said Ventura would respond later. He has described the case as an attack on free expression but previously said he would comply with the court’s decision.
Roma groups behind the legal challenge welcomed the ruling as a step toward greater justice, as Ventura continues his presidential campaign ahead of January’s election. This is a developing news story, and we’ll update tomorrow with more information.
