Here are 10 things you should know about Pandora — the World of Avatar, the new land that opens to the public at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park on May 27. Walt Disney World ’s newest “land” is inspired by the 2009 film “Avatar, ” which was directed by James Cameron, who had input in the Disney project alongside film producer Jon Landau. Joe Rohde, one of the original masterminds of Animal Kingdom and portfolio creative executive, also was on board for the park expansion.

The 12-acre land is in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a theme park that relies more on lions and giraffes than Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Disney thought the “Avatar” franchise fit in because of its messages about the value of nature and transformation through adventure.
