Mozilla will implement the WebVR standard in Firefox 55 which is expected to be released on the stable channel on August 8th. HTC VIVE and Oculus Rift will be compatible with Mozilla’s implementation.
Mozilla has announced that WebVR will ship by default on all Windows installations in Firefox 55 which is currently scheduled for August 8th. WebVR would work with the high-end virtual reality headsets; HTC Vive and Oculus Rift and offer a first-class VR experience on the web.
In a statement, Mozilla said:
Mozilla is asking developers to begin developing VR applications with the A-Frame framework or one of the other web engines and frameworks such as React VR.
As time goes on, all of the browser makers will share their WebVR compliance tests. According to Mozilla, this collaborative effort will help make sure content will work across different platforms and implementations. While Firefox will only support the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift initially, by targeting WebVR today developers can expect their content to work on any headset with a browser that supports the standard; those devices include HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Windows Mixed Reality, Samsung Gear VR, Google Daydream, and Cardboard.
