“There are no conversations about any cabinet members moving in any capacity and the president has 100 percent confidence in all members of his cabinet, ” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters.
Sessions’ name has been floated as a possible replacement for former Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly, whom Trump selected as his new White House chief of staff.
But the comments from Sanders appeared to rule out such a move, which would have been opposed by many GOP senators.
They’ re also an indication that Trump’s anger at Sessions for recusing himself from the Russian probe might not result in him taking a drastic move to get rid of him.
Trump last week refused to say if he still has confidence in his attorney general, saying a Tuesday press conference he was “disappointed” with him and that only “time will tell” his fate.
“I told you before: I’ m very disappointed in my attorney general, ” Trump said when asked if he will get rid of Sessions. “But we will see what happens. Time will tell, time will tell.”
