► Oktoberfest NYC at Watermark
Where: 78 South St., Downtown When: noon Friday through 12 a.m. Sunday
Celebrate Oktoberfest with authentic German beer, live music, food and games for the whole family while enjoying views of the Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges and the Brooklyn skyline. General admission tickets are free. There will also be three two-hour beer tastings each day for $60 each.
► Dance Safari
Where: Riverside Park at 68th Street and Riverside Boulevard, Upper West Side When: Sept. 23 and 24,5 to 6:30 p.m.
Join other park-goers and event organizers in exploring the site-specific choreographed dances scheduled throughout the waterfront park. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
Friday, Sept. 22
► Figure Drawing Workshop at Bryant Park
Where: Bryant Park, Midtown When: 1 to 4 p.m.
Bryant Park and Grand Central Atelier are offering free figure drawing classes for adults at the Art Cart in the park on Fridays through the end of September. Attendees “will sketch the portrait or figure in an outdoor setting from life, concentrating on striving for an accurate likeness and proportion of the model.”
► Square Dancing at Bryant Park
Where: The Lawn at Bryant Park, Midtown When: 5 to 10 p.m.
Bryant Park’s sixth annual square dancing “extravaganza” kicks off at 5 p.m. with dancing, live music, a mechanical bull and a cowboy hat giveaway. Food and drinks can be purchased on site.
Saturday, Sept. 23
► Free Immigration Screenings/Consultas Migratorias Gratuitas
Where: 9 a.m to 5 p.m. When: Washington Heights Academy, 202 Sherman Ave., Inwood
The organizations Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights, the Hispanic Federation and the office of State Sen. Marisol Alcatnara will host an all-day immigration screening for residents. There will be one-on-one consultations with pro-bono attorneys.
► Art in Straus Park
Where: 10 a.m to 5 p.m. When: Straus Park on Broadway and West 106th Street, Upper West Side
Friends of Straus Park is holding a day of art, music, and flowers in the Broadway pocket park with a live performance by the Blue Vipers of Brooklyn, an old-school ensemble of jazz, swing, and blues.
► Hester Street Fair’s Vintage Day with Housing Works
Where: Hester and Essex streets, Lower East Side When: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Come browse the best vintage goods the city has to offer at the Hester Street Fair. Co-host Housing Works Thrift Shop will set up a lounge stocked with vintage clothes, accessories, books, records and more, while other vintage vendors will be setting up shop as well.
► The Women’s Building Community Block Party
Where: West 20th Street, between 10th and 11th avenues, Chelsea When: noon to 6 p.m.
The Women’s Building of New York City, which is transforming the former Bayview Correctional Facility into a center for women’s rights and activism, is hosting its second annual block party this weekend. The event will feature food and drinks, games, art projects and live performances.
Sunday, Sept. 24
► Fall Family Gardening Day/Dia del Jardineria Familiar
Where: Swindler’s Cove Park, 3703 Harlem River Drive, Inwood When: 2 to 4 p.m.
Families are invited to join the Washington Heights/Inwood Food Council for the Fall Family Gardening Day. There will be harvesting, art-making and butterfly activities for everyone to enjoy.
► Outdoor Movie Night – ‚Malcolm X‘
Where: Randall’s Island, Harlem When: 7 p.m.
Check out a free movie under the stars before it gets too cold. The park is showing a movie about the life of civil rights activist Malcolm X. The movie is rated PG-13.
