Longtime real-life couple Kit Harington and Rose Leslie – who played the ill-fated lovers Jon Snow and Ygritte on „Game of Thrones“ – formally announced their engagement today in the Times newspaper in the UK, according to the BBC .
The actor couple were fan favorites on the wildly popular HBO series, but their feisty on-screen romance ran out of chances for a rekindle when Leslie’s character took an arrow in battle.
But Ygritte’s phrase to her lover – „You know nothing, Jon Snow“ – lived on in meme and gif infamy on the internet.
Leslie left the GOT cast in 2014, but rumors about Harington and Leslie as a long-term couple were confirmed when they arrived at a red carpet event together last year.
In a 2016 Vogue magazine interview, Harington said his fondest memory of filming GOT was when the cast was in Iceland in 2012, when he started working with Leslie.
„Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,“ he said.
„If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.“
