WAVERLY TOWNSHIP, MI — One man is dead after he was struck while walking his dog on M-43, Van Buren County Sgt. Casey Davis said.
The crash happened about sometime about 8 a.m. Oct. 30 on M-43 between 37th and 40th Streets in Van Buren County’s Waverly Township, which is north of Paw Paw.
Davis said a concerned citizen saw a dog walking up and down the road and found the victim. The identity of the man, who is believed to be in his 20s, has not been released.
The dog is being returned to the victim’s family.
Davis said the crash is being investigated as a hit-and-run. The suspect vehicle is believed to be gold but no other details have been provided.
Police are still at the scene. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the roadway was closed at the crash location. Drivers should seek an alternative route.
