NEW DELHI: HMD Global, the company that holds the license to manufacture Nokia branded Android smartphones, has now started rolling out the beta update for Nokia 5. Juho Sarvikas, the chief product officer has announced the same on Twitter.
The tweet reads, „#AndroidOreo for #Nokia5 has landed on Nokia phones beta labs! Android has never tasted sweeter. What’s more, Android 8.0 Oreo™ beta for #Nokia6 is coming soon! http://nokia.com/phones/betalabs“
With Android 8.0 Oreo, the smartphone will get various features like Picture-in-Picture (PIP), Wide-gamut colour for apps, Background limits, notification channels, Adaptive icons, Companion device pairing, Keyboard navigation and more.
The update will be first available via Nokia phone beta labs and beta testers will be able to experience Android 8.0 Oreo first before the world wide roll out. The update will also include the security patch for the month of December.
In order to become a beta tester, users should have a Nokia 5 smartphone and create an account and validate it by entering the IMEI number. Once the entire process is completed users will then get an OTA update after 12 hours of activation.
To recall, the company launched the Nokia 5 smartphone in June along with the Nokia 6 and Nokia 3. The smartphone is available at Rs 12,499 and runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
The smartphone features a 5.2-inch IPS LCD display with 720×1280 pixels resolution. The display is coated with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass. It sports a 6000-series aluminum built as well.
Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor paired with 2GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 16GB internal storage which can be expanded further by adding a microSD card. It comes with all the essential connectivity options and is backed by a 3000mAH battery. In the camera department, the smartphone offers 13MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front shooter for selfies.
