The Destiny 2 weekly reset is back, bringing new milestones, missions, and loot to earn. Here’s everything Guardians need to know for the week of January 16,2018.
It’s been an interesting week for both Bungie and Destiny 2 fans as the developer posted a huge update regarding the future of the game. Though the developer normally likes to keep its cards close to its chest, community backlash over the past month has essentially forced Bungie’s hand.
In an unprecedented move, Bungie not only laid out its plans for thr next few weeks but also rough ideas that it has in the planning phase for later in 2018. Needless to say, this is the most open Bungie has ever been and there’s a lot of information for players to digest.
For the time being, however, the first Faction Rally of season 2 has also finally arrived this week. During the week, level 20 players who have finished the Red War campaign are invited to join one of the three factions in the Tower: Future War Cult, New Monarchy, or Dead Orbit. In exchange for player loyalty and for submitting earned tokens, players can earn faction specific gear and weapons. For season 2, Bungie has also added all new weapons to earn as well as faction specific ornaments, armor, and the ultimate prize for the winning faction at the end of the week.
In addition to farming tokens, the new week has also refreshed the milestones and other activities in Destiny 2. This week in the Nightfall, players are delving into the Pyramidion on Io once more. Interestingly enough, the challenges and modifiers are exactly as they were only a few weeks ago during The Dawning holiday event. Thankfully, this also means that Torrent, the fan-favorite modifier, is active, giving players access to their abilities more often thanks to reduced cooldown times.
Unlike some of the other strikes within the game, The Pyramidion places a greater focus on platforming as well as combat. The first sections of this strike ask players to activate and hold various plates while battling waves of enemies. The quickest method would be to split the group in order to activate both plates to open the main door, while grenade spamming enemies considering the nearly non-existent cooldown. Beyond the combat sections, players will also encounter plenty of connecting hallways outfitted with laser beams that’ll are able to one shot most players unlucky enough to touch them. It goes without saying that players should avoid these beams at all costs.
After dealing with Vex plates and insta-death laster beams, players arrive at a large room with the large Vex creature known as Brakion. Consisting of multiple phases, Brakion opens the battle by simply shooting at players in one location. When its health lowers to a specific point, it’ll retreat behind a shield, in which players will have to quickly disable by standing on a Vex plate.
As Brakion teleports away, Vex reinforcements flood the room to support their leader. Continue chipping away at his health and repeating this process until his health reaches 25%. At this point his head will pop off, making him more aggressive and much faster. This also opens up a new weak point to shoot at, making the battle go faster as well.

This week, the Flashpoint milestone has found its way back to Mercury. Unfortunately for non-Curse of Osiris owners, this means that the milestone won’t be available along with Cayde’s engram for completing it. For those with the expansion or season pass, simply take part in the Crossroads public event on Mercury to raise a percentage meter. To get it done fast, make sure to trigger the Heroic modifier as well.
This development also means that Cayde’s weekly treasure stash is also unavailable for players with only the base game. Considering how random and sometimes unremarkable the rewards are for the effort needed, some players probably won’t be too disappointed by that fact. Before embarking on the hunt, make sure to visit Cayde first to purchase his maps, which add icons to the minimap of Mercury.
Bungie’s making things a little easier this week for the small space of Mercury. Shockingly, there’s only one chest to find. Here’s where players should be looking:
While providing new milestones and content, the weekly reset also shuffles the Leviathan Raid encounter order. While this not only helps to keep the experience fresh for veteran players, it also helps players new to the experience get used to the Raid while also giving them an opportunity to play each part even if struggling.

For players looking for more of a challenge when playing strikes, the Heroic Strikes playlist is the way to go in Destiny 2. Players above the minimum recommended power level of 270 have an opportunity to score better loot at the end of the mission. Complete three of these this week to earn a powerful loot engram.
Call to Arms – Win glory by participating, getting kills, and finishing PvP matches from either the Quickplay or Competitive playlists. Finish the milestone and return to Shaxx to earn his weekly engram.
