The Fukui prefectural government asked the Ground Self-Defense Force to dispatch troops for relief operations. As of 9 p.m. (noon GMT), authorities had received no reports of injuries or sick people. It remains to be seen when the snow-caused gridlock will be resolved, with some vehicles remaining stuck for more than 10 hours, officials of the transport ministry’s national road office in Fukui said.
