After the initial unveiling at IFA 2017, Asus has now come out with the VivoBook S14 (S410UA) in India. The laptop is targeted at people who are always on the move. There are three variants of the Asus S14 that come equipped with seventh-generation Intel Core i3 and eight-generation Core i5 and Core i7 processors. These laptops are very lightweight and come in a compact form-factor while providing an ultra-thin frame with considerably thin bezels.
“The demand for stylish laptops has been increasing with the change in lifestyle and huge disposable income in our target audience. Consumers are seeking trendy yet powerful laptops. With our new ‘VivoBook S14’, we bring those users a laptop that can represent their style with powerful hardware for making their daily task easy,” Arnold Su, Business Development Manager, ASUS India, said in a statement.
The first thing that stands out about the laptop is its 14-inch full-HD, anti-glare IPS display that fits in a 13-inch chassis. Asus calls this a NanoEdge display that makes the bezels come down to just 7.8mm, effectively increasing the screen-to-body ratio up to 77%. The display also features visual optimisation technologies called Asus Splendid and Tru2Life that bring four different viewing modes for the best possible image quality. There is a Normal mode that is ideal for daily tasks, a Vivid mode that will enhance photos and videos, Eye Care mode for reducing Blue light emission to help ease eye strain, and a Manual Mode that lets users adjust colour recordation to a preferred setting.
The VivoBook S14 has a thin, 18.8mm profile and weighs 1.4kg. It has a sturdy, body with a scratch resistant metallic finish. The notebook features a backlit keyboard that has a 1.4mm travel distance. It houses a multi-touch capable touchpad that has a fingerprint scanner on the top right with support for Windows Hello. The laptop has a USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C port, one USB 3.0 port, one USB 2.0 port and one HDMI port. It also has a 2-in-1 card reader that supports SD and SDXC memory cards. Then there is the support for dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity.
All three variants of the laptop come with Windows 10 Home installed out-of-the-box. In terms of memory and storage, the laptops come with 8GB of DDR4 RAM as well as up to 256GB M.2 SSD and 1TB HDD. The notebook packs a three-cell lithium-polymer battery that is claimed to provide up to 8 hours of battery life on a single charge and a lifespan that is up to three times longer than standard lithium-ion cylinder batteries. Asus claims this is thanks to ASUS SuperBattery technology.
All three variants of the Asus VivoBook S14 are available for purchase right now exclusively from Flipkart and come in just one ‘Metal Grey’ colour option. The Core i7 with 256GB SSD model is priced at Rs.77,990, and the Core i5 with 128GB SSD variant is priced at Rs.64,490. The retail price for the Core i3 version with 128GB SSD is Rs. 54,490, but as a Valentine’s Day promotional offer, it will be available for Rs.44,990. The offer is valid from February 14 to February 28.
