In 2001, Cindi Broaddus suffered burns on 70% of her body.
Dr. Phil McGraw’s sister-in-law, Cindi Broaddus, who survived an acid attack, has died.
Broaddus was the sister of Robin McGraw, who is Dr. Phil’s wife. According to her obituary, published by The Duncan Banner, she died Monday, February 19. She was 68. A cause of death was not given.
She was buried on February 23, which would have been her 69th birthday.
In 2001, a jar of sulfuric acid was tossed off an overpass and struck Broaddus. According to People, she suffered burns on 70% of her body and subsequently underwent 12 surgeries.
Doctors originally gave her a 30% chance of survival after the incident, but she went on to lead a meaningful life.
Robin posted a collage of photos to pay tribute to her sister on Instagram.
“I am reposting @branlo35 post,” she captioned it. “I am so proud of you and Angela and Shelli. We are all heartbroken and will miss her every day. She was our hero. You 3 all made her life a dream. She lived every day for her daughters and you always made her the happiest woman ever! I will celebrate her and her strength and her unwavering support for me the rest of my life. I miss her dearly.”
Broaddus is survived by three daughters, several grandchildren, and several siblings.
