Survivors of the Florida school shooting ripped into President Trump and told him to “have a damn heart” Sunday after he implied that the FBI could have prevented the tragedy if it spent less time investigating the commander in chief’s possible ties to Russian election meddling.
“Oh my god. 17 OF MY CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS ARE GONE AND YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO MAKE THIS ABOUT RUSSIA???!! HAVE A DAMN HEART. You can keep all of your fake and meaningless ‘thoughts and prayers,’” tweeted student Morgan Williams, one of several teens from Marjory Stoneman Douglas who has been calling for politicians to get tougher on gun control in the disaster’s wake.
“…my friends were brutally murdered and you have the nerve to make this about Russia. I can not believe this,” added user Kyra, who also said she is a Stoneman Douglas student.
The FBI received tips in recent months about suspected gunman Nikolas Cruz — who killed 17 people inside the school on Wednesday with a legally obtained semi-automatic assault rifle — but it failed to follow up.
Trump tweeted Sunday night that the law-enforcement “missed all of the many signals” and is “ spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign.”
Students also announced Sunday they plan to hold a march on Washington next month urging pols to beef up gun-control measures.
