Carrie Underwood made an emotional comeback Sunday night.
The 35-year-old country singer made her first public appearance since a „gruesome“ fall in 2017 to perform her newest single „Cry Pretty“ at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Celebrities are praising the artist’s performance and return.
Reba McEntire, who hosted the awards show Sunday, told „Entertainment Tonight“ that she was „proud“ of Underwood .
„She’s gone through a lot, and I am proud that she’s back on the stage again,“ McEntire said. „She’s a tremendous vocalist, incredible — got legs to die for — but she’s an incredible vocalist.“
McEntire also shared a photo of the two of them backstage with the caption, „Good to hug your neck.“
Kelly Clarkson also spoke to „Entertainment Tonight“ about Underwood’s return, as well as a fan poll that pit the two „American Idol“ winners against each other. The artists defended each other on Twitter after they discovered the poll.
„It doesn’t matter what spectrum — if you’re No. 1, you’re No. 1, or No. 6, you’re No. 6 — as long as you’re doing what you love,“ she said. „So many people go down bad paths, end up in rehab. All these things happen to them because you’re just not focusing on what makes you happy — that’s what I wanted to focus on. We’re moms, we’re CEOs, we’re killing it — so that’s why I was saying, ‚Don’t do that to us.'“
Days after hosing the Country Music Awards in November 2017, the singer fell down the steps of her Nashville home. In addition to breaking her wrist, she also required 40-50 stitches in her face. She shared small updates with fans throughout her recovery.
Her husband, Nashville Predator hockey player Mike Fisher, said he was proud of his wife.
Other stars voiced their support on social media and praised her performance.
It’s good to see the artist back onstage and ready to dominate the charts once again.
