Epic Games reveals that the highly anticipated practice mode ‚Playground‘ is coming soon, likely in just a few days, though it’ll only be available for a limited time.
Fortnite Battle Royale‘s highly anticipated practice mode could be available in just a couple of days, according to a new update notification going out in-game. The short message reads, “Playground LTM – Coming Soon!” which typically implies a release in the forthcoming week, though that could always change. Playground will offer Fortnite Battle Royale players a mode in which to explore and experiment without having to worry about the competitive aspects of matchmaking.
As Fortnite Battle Royale players are well-experienced with by now, the “LTM” or limited time mode labeling for Playground shows that it’s not a permanent addition — for now. Epic Games plans on releasing the limited-time mode for players to thoroughly test so it can gather data and evaluate whether it’s something that can be supported long-term. A mode allowing such broad experimentation can go wrong in any number of ways, so players will hopefully understand the limitation.
Epic Games representative NeuronBasher posted the following statement on Reddit, in response to a player excited for the upcoming release:
“You have no idea how excited we all are to see the amazing things folks do with this mode. We’re going to be paying very close attention and learning as much as we can so please make sure to share your thoughts and experiences as you try it out.”
NeuronBasher’s comments line up with Epic’s past assertion that described PlayGround as the “first step” towards what could be a complete creative mode for Fortnite Battle Royale. Of course, it’s also in line with Epic’s grander general strategy of heavy, constructive community interaction.
The Fortnite Battle Royale Playground mode was initially announced over a month ago in one of Epic Games’ “State of Development” announcements. That reveal filled out some of the details regarding what players will be capable of in the mode, but players will likely have to play for themselves to figure out the full extent of Playground.
Playground seems to load like a normal match, full of player or squads alike, as Epic says to “Battle and build” and you can’t exactly battle by yourself on an empty map. The “creative” aspect comes from a few key changes:
Squads will also have friendly fire so they can test out different offensive and defensive tactics. Playground is clearly a full creative mode, rather just a normal match with a unique rule-set, but it should be great as it is.
Fortnite Battle Royale is available now on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
