Another comment made by the US President Donald Trump on the country immigration laws caused more trouble in Washington on Sunday
WASHINGTON, U. S. – Another comment made by the U. S. President Donald Trump on the country’s immigration laws caused more trouble in Washington on Sunday.
The Trump administration’s ‘No Tolerance’ policy, which was imposed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions last month, has led the U. S. Border Control to separate roughly 2,300 children from their undocumented immigrant parents and guardians.
As a particularly acrimonious week for GOP and the President came to a close, Trump managed to roil tensions again.
On Sunday morning, Trump wrote on Twitter, „We cannot allow all of these people to invade our country. When somebody comes in, we must immediately, with no judges or court cases, bring them back from where they came.”
In his second tweet, the U. S. President continued, “Our system is a mockery to good immigration policy and law and order. Most children come without parents… Our Immigration policy, laughed at all over the world, is very unfair to all of those people who have gone through the system legally and are waiting on line for years!”
Trump then used his famous catchphrase and said, “Immigration must be based on merit – we need people who will help to Make America Great Again.”
Following the implementation of the policy announced by Sessions, Homeland Security officials were directed to refer all cases of illegal entry into the U. S. for prosecution, which separated thousands of children from their parents at the country’s southern border.
Trump and his administration faced days of mounting outrage and extraordinary public condemnation, for imposing the policy that tore apart families at the U. S.-Mexico border.
Yet, after repeatedly insisting that only the Congress could end the ‘zero tolerance’ immigration policy and that Democrats were to be blamed for the policy, Trump made a dramatic reversal in stance last week.
Following the growing anger and sensing possible political damage, Trump signed an executive order ending the separations.
Signing the order, Trump said, “We’re going to keep families together but we still have to maintain toughness or our country will be overrun by people, by crime, by all of the things that we don’t stand for and that we don’t want.”
He added, “We want security for our country. The Republicans want security, and insist on security for our country, and we will have that and keep families together. It’s very important.”
A day after signing the executive order, Trump issued a stark message to Republican lawmakers, instructing them to „stop wasting your time“ on a legislative fix for immigration until after the midterm elections in November.
Trump reportedly said, “Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November. Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solves this decades old problem. We can pass great legislation after the Red Wave!”
He tweeted later, „Now is the best opportunity ever for Congress to change the ridiculous and obsolete laws on immigration.“
Trump’s conflicting rhetoric on the separations and his unexpected policy pivots through the week made matters worse for his party as the week ended.
Then, on Sunday morning, Trump declared that people entering the country with no proper documents should be immediately deported without any judicial process.
Meanwhile, Trump’s June 20 Executive Order, which ended his administration’s policy of separating families at the border, led to reports that thousands of migrant children were waiting to be reunited with their parents.
