Google also adds a Daydream-exclusive feature called cinema mode, which ‚optimizes web video for the best viewing experience in VR.‘
Good news for those of you with a Google Daydream View or Lenovo Mirage Solo virtual reality headset: You can now surf the web in VR with Google Chrome.
To try it out, download the latest version of Chrome on your Android smartphone from the Google Play store. After doing so, you’ll be able to launch Chrome right from the home screen of your Daydream device, then browse any webpage in VR.
„All the features you love on Chrome, from voice search to incognito mode to saved bookmarks, are now accessible on your Daydream headset,“ Chrome UX Engineer Gordon Brander wrote in a blog post . „With Chrome now integrated into Daydream, you can start browsing on your phone, whether it is reading your favorite news article or watching a YouTube video, and easily switch to your headset.“
Google also added a Daydream-exclusive feature called cinema mode, which „optimizes web video for the best viewing experience in VR,“ Brander wrote.
Daydream View and Lenovo Mirage Solo With Daydream both earned „good“ ratings in PCMag’s reviews.
Meanwhile, Google-owned YouTube last week launched its VR app on Samsung’s Gear VR. Featuring more than 800,000 virtual experiences, the YouTube VR app is also available on Daydream View, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR.
YouTube also added a new social feature to the app that lets Daydream View and Gear VR users watch and discuss YouTube videos together in VR. To try it out, click the „Watch Together“ icon located under the play controls.
