A missing Iowa college student may have been spotted last week near Kansas City, Missouri, police announced Wednesday.
Mollie Tibbetts, who has been missing since July 18, was potentially seen eight days later at a Kearney truck stop near Interstate 35 and Highway 92. Police said they are investigating the possible July 26 sighting.
Tibbetts, 20, disappeared after going for a jog near her boyfriend’s home in Brooklyn, Iowa.
Kearney police said they have interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage and have forwarded the information to the Iowa investigating task force. Only one person at the truck stop said they saw a girl who resembled Tibbetts, however, police said.

Authorities have yet to give an official timeline; but police have been combing through information from Tibbetts’ Fitbit, which she always wore, as well as her cellphone and social media accounts.
“We are getting a lot of information back from that process. We are very hopeful with the electronic data we are getting back,” Mitch Mortvedt, assistant director of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, previously told the Des Moines Register. “We are relying on the FBI heavily because it’s an ever-changing world in technology.“
Anyone with information in the 20-year-old’s disappearance is urged to call Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa at 800-452-1111 or 515-223-1400.
