EL SEGUNDO — If the Lakers have been flailing around in the dark, searching for the light for the past few weeks, LeBron James indicated after Wednesday’s practice that he’s ready to flip the switch.
The team returns from the All-Star break three games out of eighth place in the Western Conference standings. At 28-29 with 25 games left, this is the latest in the season any James-led team has been below.500 since his rookie season – so long ago, he said he can’t even remember it.
“It’s going to be a little bit different for me now,” said James, who missed 18 games with a groin injury he suffered on Christmas. “Just knowing the position that we’re in, for me, personally, I haven’t been in this position in a while. Because of my injury, it’s kind of hit the team. Obviously, we would have loved to have the success while I was out, but we didn’t and this is where we (are) right now.
“So I’m going to be a little bit different earlier than I would like to be in previous years.”
And no, James said, he’s not concerned about starting his kick too early. In fact, he relishes this challenge, he said.
“I don’t fear nothing,” said James, who averaged 23.2 points, 10.8 rebounds and 11 assists in the five games he’s played since returning from the injury. “I’m all about being uncomfortable; I love being comfortable, I fall in love with being uncomfortable. So this is another uncomfortable thing for me and I love it.
“Why not? I enjoy the challenge of anything.
