Twitter user can download all their data using Twitter’s Request your Archive feature.
When you press delete on to one of your social media accounts, you expect the social media company to delete all your account data, including your personal information, messages and posts, permanently after a prescribed grace period. But it turns out, this is not entirely true. At least not in case of Twitter. And now, a new report has revealed that Twitter stores your messages long after you have deactivated or deleted your account.
According to a report by a security researcher Karan Saini (via Tech Crunch), Twitter stores your direct messages for years after you or others in the conversation have deleted the messages from their account. The micro-blogging platform also stores these deleted direct messages, or DMs as they are popularly called, even when you have deactivated or suspended your account.
