Nvidia has finally started to release the long-rumored GTX 1650 into the wild, and it’s largely fit right into the performance and price categories we anticipated. Retailing for $149, it’s the cheapest GTX card built on Turing technology and is the little brother to fellow 16-series cards, the 1660 and 1660 Ti.
The key selling point of the 16-series is that they pack Turing architecture but have thrown all the dedicated ray tracing and deep learning hardware overboard to reduce their price to more palatable levels for budget- and mid-tier enthusiasts. The 1650 is the lowest end of the product stack and priced accordingly, packing 896 CUDA cores and 56 texture units. Its 4GB of GDDR5 are clocked at the same speed as the 1660,8GT/s.
Benchmarks leaked prior to the 1650’s proper launch indicate that it will perform on par with the Pascal line’s 1050 Ti (or, for an AMD reference point, around the RX 570). A Ti version of the 1650 is strongly indicated, based on the existence of a more powerful mobile variant, so we likely aren’t seeing a fully activated TU117 in the desktop 1650. For now, however, these are the best deals you’ll find on a 1650.
