Pakistani officials say at least 41 people were killed and dozens more are feared dead after a Pakistani International Airlines (PIA) aircraft with 99 people on board crashed into a residential area in the southern port city of Karachi after experiencing technical problems.
Flight PK8303, carrying 91 passengers and eight crew, crashed on May 22 on approach to the city’s Jinnah International Airport. The Airbus A320 was traveling from the eastern city of Lahore.
‚Forty-one dead are confirmed in the plane crash,‘ PIA Chief Executive Arshad Malik told a news conference.
Malik said Pakistan’s independent safety investigations agency would probe the crash.
Officials said there were at least two survivors from the plane, and it was unknown how many people on the ground were injured, with at least five houses destroyed.
