To enable the 2000 MB/s read and write speeds on the Extreme Pro Portable drive, the product has been fitted with a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 port.

(Credit: Western Digital) The SanDisk brand is upgrading the Extreme and Extreme Pro Portable SSDs by doubling the data transfer speeds over the last generation models. The Extreme Portable SSD can now reach read speeds of 1050MB/s and write speeds of 1000 MB/s. Meanwhile, the Extreme Pro model can hit 2000MB/s transfer rates for both read and write. Both products go on sale today over the Western Digital store. SanDisk’s parent, Western Digital, is marketing the NVMe drives to photographers, videographers and heavy-duty users who are constantly taking images or 4K/8K video content, and need extra space to offload the data.
