Xiaomi Expands Local Manufacturing of Smartphones, Smart TVs in India

Xiaomi on Thursday hosted a virtual briefing to announce the expansion of its local manufacturing in India. The company named China’s BYD and DBG Technology as two of its new partners for producing smartphones and Hyderabad-based Radiant Technology for locally manufacturing its smart TVs in the country.
Xiaomi is expanding manufacturing in India for smartphones and smart TVs, the company announced at a virtual briefing on Thursday. It named China’s BYD, and DBG Technology as two of its new partners for producing smartphones. The Chinese company already has Foxconn and Flex as two of its existing manufacturing partners for the local production of smartphones in the country. In addition to ramping up its domestic smartphone manufacturing, Xiaomi announced Hyderabad-based Radiant Technology as its second manufacturing partner for locally producing smart TVs in the country, after Dixon. BYD is setting up a plant in Tamil Nadu and is expected to kick off local manufacturing of smartphones later in the first half of 2021. However, DBG has already established a facility in Bawal, Haryana for smartphone manufacturing, Xiaomi announced during the virtual briefing. The company added that the addition of DBG increased its monthly manufacturing capacity by about 20 percent. Xiaomi Vice President and India CEO Manu Kumar Jain said that it was ramping up local manufacturing and sourcing of smartphone components.
