When Andra Day’s name was called as winner of best actress in a motion picture drama at the ceremony during the 2021 Golden Globes, she immediately broke into tears. It’s understandable as not only did she wholly throw herself into the role of Billie Holiday for The United States vs. Billie Holliday, she’s only the second Black woman to ever win in the category; the first was Whoopi Goldberg in 1985 for The Color Purple.
