The family of William „Billy“ Evans, the 18-year veteran of the U.S. Capitol Police who was killed in Friday’s attack at a Capitol checkpoint, said Tuesday that his death „has left a gaping void in our lives that will never be filled.“ „Billy was the best father, son, brother, and friend anyone could ever hope for. His death has left a gaping void in our lives that will never be filled,“ the family said in their first public statement, which was released by the U.S. Capitol Police. Evans was one of two officers struck when a vehicle was rammed through the north barricade of the U.S. Capitol on April 2. The suspect behind the wheel, authorities said, also exited the car and lunged toward officers with a knife in hand before being shot. Yogananda Pittman, the acting chief of the Capitol Police, announced Evans‘ death about three hours after the incident occurred.
