Micromax’s new IN Note 2 takes a leaf out of Samsung’s playbook and does right by it. The design is appealing, but other hardware such as the processor, the camera, the display, and the battery shine, too, for the price of Rs 12,490. India Today Tech explores whether or not this phone is worthwhile in this Micromax IN Note 2 review.
Micromax returned to India’s smartphone market with the IN Note 1 back in 2020. That phone was important to the brand because a lot was riding on it and the IN Note 1 delivered on promises. People who bought the phone had good things to say, and I, too, was impressed by that. The IN Note 2 is a generation ahead and comes to take forward that legacy. It comes across as a worthwhile upgrade for an introductory price of Rs 12,490. IN Note 2’s AMOLED display brings a good viewing experience, the glass back gives it premium looks, near-stock Android allows for easy navigation, a fast-charging battery that is super helpful when the battery runs out, and four cameras for different kinds of photography. Micromax has stuffed a lot of features into the IN Note 2 that kind of justify the price of Rs 12,490, but is this a phone worth that money and should you buy it? Find out the answer in this review. It is very rare for a sub-Rs 13,000 phone to come with a glass back. So when Micromax told me that it had used glass on the IN Note 2, I was taken aback a little. And just to be sure, I confirmed with Micromax that the IN Note 2 has a glass back. Yes, the IN Note 2 has a glass back, making it one of the rare phones. It is a super shiny surface, which is suitable for aesthetics but, at the same time, a disaster if you tend to use phones without a protective case. The glass back has Corning Gorilla Glass protection, though, so it can survive minor scuffs. But you may still need the case because it can provide the phone with some friction as its overall body is very slippery. And if you did not notice, you will find the design familiar. That is because Micromax used the same design as the recent Samsung Galaxy S-series phones. The recently launched Galaxy S21 FE, too, has a similar design. I do not think going for a popular design is bad, especially when it makes a budget phone look premium. The looks are great for the price, but that is not where my appreciation for this phone ends. The IN Note 2 has a big 6.43-inch AMOLED display with a Full-HD+ resolution, which is not just crisp but full of vibrant colours that make watching movies enjoyable. The trailer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looked amazing on the phone, while Titans in Full-HD on Netflix kept me hooked for hours.
