Trump’s statements pose „grave threats“ to the integrity of the proceedings against him, US District Judge Tanya Chutkan wrote.
The federal judge overseeing the Justice Department’s election-interference case against former President Donald Trump issued a formal gag order on Tuesday. The order bars Trump from attacking prosecutors, witnesses, and courthouse staffers.
But it allows him to insult former Vice President Mike Pence, the Biden administration, the Justice Department, and other political rivals.
„Undisputed testimony cited by the government demonstrates that when Defendant has publicly attacked individuals, including on matters related to this case, those individuals are consequently threatened and harassed,“ the order said. And since being indicted earlier this year, Trump „has continued to make similar statements attacking individuals involved in the judicial process, including potential witnesses, prosecutors, and court staff,“ it continued.
