Though they have an excellent defense, the Chiefs struggled at times against the run, and the 49ers have the NFL’s third best running game.
The Kansas City Chiefs defense has been outstanding, finishing second in the NFL in both yards and points allowed during the regular season.
But its weakness was against the run where it ranked just 18th. And that Achilles’ heel likely will be tested by the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
The 49ers were third in the NFL in rushing yards with 2,389, while averaging 4.8 per carry.
Christian McCaffrey, who led the NFL with 1,459 rushing yards while averaging a robust 5.4 yards per carry, spearheads that running attack.
“He’s going to be a big challenge for us to stop,” Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill said. “Christian’s as dynamic of a back as there is in the National Football League.”
He’s not only one of the most dynamic running backs, but he’s also considered the NFL’s best.
That’s why he has the highest average annual value among all NFL running backs at $16 million per year as part of his four-year, $64 million deal.
“McCaffrey’s got phenomenal tools,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said.
