Closing arguments in the hush money case could come as early as Tuesday.
Former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial could wrap up as early as next week.
Judge Juan Merchan told the court Thursday that closing arguments in the hush money trial could begin as soon as Tuesday. Trump is facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in relation to the hush money payment that was made to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election. Trump has pleaded not guilty and has denied Daniels‘ allegations that the two had a sexual encounter.
The update came after Trump attorney Todd Blanche informed the court that he anticipates being finished cross-examining star witness and former Trump fixer Michael Cohen before Monday’s morning recess. Cohen will be the last witness for the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.
Prosecutor Susan Hoffigner said redirect would take under an hour, leading Merchan to conclude that the court will likely be done with the presentation of evidence by the end of Monday.
