Greene made an offhand remark about Crockett’s physical appearance.
Twitter is having a field day after Democratic congresswoman Jasmine Crockett clashed with GOP firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene during a House Oversight Committee hearing on Thursday.
The hearing, in which lawmakers were discussing whether to move forward with a contempt resolution against Attorney General Merrick Garland, erupted into chaos on Thursday when Greene made an offhand remark about Crockett’s physical appearance.
The clash was prompted after Greene brought up the daughter of Juan Merchan, the New York State Supreme Court presiding over former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial. Loren Merchan works as a Democratic political consultant.
„I’d like to know if any of the Democrats on this committee are employing Judge [Juan] Merchan’s daughter,“ Greene asked.
Crockett then demanded that Greene explain „what that has to do with Merrick Garland,“ and asked the Republican, „Do you know what we’re here for?“
„I don’t think you know what you’re here for,“ Greene shot back. „I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,“ she said.
Uproar then ensued, with panel chairman Representative James Comer repeatedly slamming his gavel and calling for order, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez demanding the committee reprimand Greene for her words.
