Goodman was “surrounded by family” when he passed away on Saturday (April 22) in a hospice in Kent, southern England following a battle with bone cancer, his manager confirmed to CNN.
The beloved dance coach was born in London in 1944. According to his website, he began dancing professionally at 19 years old. He retired from dancing in his late twenties after he won the British Championships in Blackpool.
Goodman first began judging on Britain’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2004, where he remained until 2016. He joined the American version of the competition show — Dancing with the Stars — in 2005, where he stayed until his retirement last year.
In November 2022, Goodman announced that he wouldn’t be returning to the hit dance show — which had moved in its most recent season from network TV to Disney+.
“It has been a huge pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful show,” he said at the time, per USA Today. “But I’ve decided I’d like to spend more time with my grandchildren and family back in Britain. I could not thank you enough, my Dancing with the Stars family, it’s been such a wonderful experience for me.”
Goodman’s colleagues have taken to social media to pay tribute to their friend following his death.
Fellow DWTS judge Bruno Tonioli wrote, “Hart broken [sic] my dear friend and partner for 19 years the one and only ballroom LEGEND #LenGoodman passed away I will treasure the memories of our adventures @bbcstrictly @officialdwts there will never be anyone like you you will always be my perfect 10 ❤️.”
Craig Revel Horwood, who judged Strictly Come Dancing alongside Goodman, said, “I’ve just woken up to the sad news that my gorgeous colleague and dear friend Len Goodman has passed away. My heart and love go out to his lovely Sue and family.”
He continued, “Len Goody Goodman is what I always called him and ‘It’s a ten from Len & seveeeeern’ will live with me forever. RIP Len.”

В любом случае это был двойник. Officer who fired fatal shot in Breonna Taylor botched raid hired by a nearby county sheriffs office

Myles Cosgrove, one of the Louisville Metro Police officers involved in the 2020 shooting of Breonna Taylor, has been recently hired by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Cosgrove’s attorney told CNN.

The move prompted the family of Breonna Taylor to release a statement expressing “disgust” and “disappointment” the officer who fired the fatal bullet in the botched raid was hired by a sheriff’s office only 50 miles away from Louisville.

Cosgrove – the detective whose bullet ultimately killed Taylor according to the Kentucky Attorney General – began working for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office on April 20, Sheriff Ryan Gosser told CNN affiliate WAVE.

The sheriff told WAVE his office did a normal background check prior to hiring Cosgrove, and pointed out Cosgrove was never indicted.

Gosser said Cosgrove brings experience which will be useful in the county, WAVE reported.

Cosgrove’s attorney Scott Miller said his client was a scapegoat for the shooting death of Taylor.

“He has been cleared by a state grand jury, a federal grand jury,” he said adding, “His actions that night, were what police officers are trained to react to when they’re fired upon,” Miller said. “We provided expert testimony that said he acquired sufficient target identification and target isolation. The city didn’t provide any expert testimony. They have nothing in their policy related to that.”

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron said Cosgrove was justified because Taylor’s boyfriend fired at officers first.

The Louisville Metro Police Department initially terminated Detective Cosgrove in January 2021 for use of deadly force for firing 16 rounds into Taylor’s home and failing to activate his body camera, according to a copy of his termination letter.

In December 2021, the Louisville Metro Police Merit Board backed the decision to fire Cosgrove by a 5-2 vote, in a decision made after several days of hearings.

Last November, the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council voted not to revoke Cosgrove’s state peace officer certification according to Louisville television station WHAS.

The decision meant he could apply for other law enforcement jobs in the state.

“The Kentucky law enforcement Council, consisting of citizens, mayors, Judge executives, police officers across the state as well as educators, also voted he should not lose his police officer certification [and] should be allowed to be a police officer in Kentucky,” Miller said.

Sam Aguiar, who represents Taylor’s family, said he was “disgusted” when he heard about the hiring.

“I was disappointed and disgusted to hear that an agency hired him. We had one of the best ballistics experts in the country review Cosgrove’s actions at length. He concluded without a doubt that Cosgrove shot Breonna continuously while she was unarmed, going to the ground, and on the ground,” Aguiar said.

“Even if Carroll County was desperate for a body to fill a position, due diligence should’ve prevented this hire from happening. But we unfortunately know from Breonna’s case and so many others that in the world of policing, lots of undeserved favors are performed for officers simply because of the badge.”

When reached, the Louisville Metro Police Department told CNN it had no comment.

A protest was called in response to Cosgrove’s appointment outside the sheriff’s office in Carrollton, on Monday, the Carrollton Police Department confirmed to CNN. By midmorning, CNN affiliate WAVE reported, a small turnout of mostly Louisville residents.

“We have activated our plans in regard to civil protests. Our agency has coordinated a response with other agencies that serve our city,” Carrollton Police Chief Michael Willhoite said in a statement to CNN.

Carrollton Mayor Robb W. Adams addressed the controversial hiring on the city’s Facebook page.

“As many of you may know, there has been some unrest in recent days related to a recent hiring at the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. We do understand that there are groups who plan to come and exercise their right to assemble and peacefully protest this decision,” Adams said. “The City of Carrollton has been closely monitoring the situation and have plans in place to ensure everyone’s safety, although we do not expect any issues.”

Meanwhile, Cosgrove, who has already started working for the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, needs to work two more years to collect on his full retirement benefits, according to his lawyer.

“He has a right to pursue a profession. And he’s pursued one for 20 years and done it honorably, up until this point when he was terminated by Louisville as a scapegoat for this entire situation,” Miller said.

В полиции сообщили, что огонь из храма распространился на магазин рядом. Подозреваемого в поджоге оперативно задержали. Злоумышленником оказался 34-летний житель села Испас.
Сейчас с мужчиной проводят первоочередные следственные действия и устанавливаются мотивы совершенного.

По данному факту умышленного уничтожения или повреждения имущества начали уголовное производство по ч. 2 ст. 194 УКУ.

У поліції повідомили, що вогонь з храму розповсюдився на магазин що поруч.  Підозрюваного у підпалі оперативно затримали.   Зловмисником виявився 34-річний житель села Іспас. 

Нині з чоловіком проводять першочергові слідчі дії та встановлюються мотиви вчиненого.   

За даним фактом умисного знищення або пошкодження майна  розпочали кримінальне провадження за ч. 2 ст. 194 ККУ.

Kim Potter, the Minnesota police officer who mistook her gun for a Taser and killed Daunte Wright in 2021, was released from prison early Monday.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections said Potter was set free around 4 a.m., the unannounced timing chosen “out of an abundance of caution.” The department confirmed Friday she would be released Monday but declined to say what time out of security concerns.
Potter, a white officer for the Brooklyn Center Police Department in suburban Minneapolis, fatally shot Wright, who was Black, during a traffic stop in April 2021. The shooting happened during the trial of Derek Chauvin, the officer who killed George Floyd, and Wright’s death set off several days of protests.
Potter, now 50, appeared much thinner in a new photo released last week by the Department of Corrections. Her attorney, Earl Gray, said he had “no idea” why her appearance had changed.
Potter was released from the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Shakopee and will be on supervised release until Dec. 21, when her two-year term sentence for manslaughter expires. Corrections spokesman Andny Skoogman said in a news release that Potter will live in Wisconsin during the supervised release.
Minnesota law requires those sent to prison to serve two-thirds of their sentence behind bars and the remaining time on supervised release, Skoogman said. In Potter’s case, she served 16 months of her two-year sentence.
“The term of imprisonment is set by law; there is no parole board and no time off for good behavior,” Skoogman said.
The sentence from Judge Regina Chu drew strong criticism from Wright’s family and their attorney, civil rights lawyer Ben Crump. The state attorney general’s office had sought a sentence recommended by state guidelines of just over seven years in prison.
Wright’s mother, Katie Wright, said after the sentencing that Potter “murdered my son,” adding: “Today the justice system murdered him all over again.”
Defense attorneys argued at the sentencing hearing that Potter deserved leniency because Wright was trying to drive away and Potter had the right to defend herself. Judge Chu said at the time that the case was not the same as other high-profile killings, including George Floyd’s death that resulted in a 22 1/2-year sentence for Chauvin.
“This is a cop who made a tragic mistake,” she said.
Wright, a 20-year-old father, was killed on April 11, 2021, after Brooklyn Center officers pulled him over for having expired license tags and an air freshener hanging from his rearview mirror. Officers discovered he had a warrant for a misdemeanor weapons possession charge and he was shot during a struggle as officers tried to arrest him.
Civil rights advocates say laws against hanging objects from rearview mirrors have been used as a pretext for stopping Black motorists.
Potter is heard on video yelling “Taser” several times just before she fires her pistol as Wright tried to drive away from the traffic stop.
Potter, a 26-year police veteran, apologized to Wright’s family at sentencing and spoke directly to his mother: “Katie, I understand a mother’s love. I’m sorry I broke your heart … my heart is broken and devastated for all of you.”

Сьогодні під ранок в окупованому Севастополі місцеві жителі чули стрілянину та вибухи. Окупаційна влада повідомила, що російська протиповітряна оборона нібито знищила два надводні дрони.
На кадрах із соцмереж видно, як російські військові стріляють по цілі, і зрештою видно вибух.
Речник Командування Повітряних сил України Юрій Ігнат прокоментував нічну атаку дронів на Севастополь.
За його словами, це не перша така атака. І важливо збільшувати кількість таких безпілотників.
– Звичайні безпілотники, що рухаються над водною поверхнею, – це доволі непроста ціль, яку важко вразити. Тому засоби сучасного ведення бою з використанням БПЛА різних типів будуть нарощуватися, – сказав Юрій Ігнат.
Сьогодні зранку так званий губернатор Севастополя Михайло Развожаєв заявив про збиття надводних безпілотників у місті. Нібито один БПЛА вдалося збити, а другий – сам вибухнув.

Der Chef der russischen Wagner-Söldner Jewgeni Prigoschin drohte indes damit, künftig keine Gefangenen mehr zu machen und alle ukrainischen Soldaten zu töten. „Wir werden einfach alle auf dem Schlachtfeld vernichten“, sagte Prigoschin.
Er begründete dies mit einem angeblich abgefangenen Funkspruch der Ukrainer, in dem diese die Erschießung verletzter Wagner-Söldner besprechen. Prigoschin warf Kiew die Verletzung des Völkerrechts vor. Sobald eine Seite Kriegsgefangene genommen habe, sei sie für deren Versorgung und Sicherheit verantwortlich, sagte der 61-Jährige. Da er sich daran halte, werde er künftig keine Kriegsgefangenen mehr machen. „Wir werden alle, die auf dem Schlachtfeld sind, töten und keine Gefangenen mehr nehmen“, so der kremlnahe Unternehmer am Sonntag auf dem Telegram-Kanal seines Pressedienstes.
Russland hat vor 14 Monaten seinen völkerrechtswidrigen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine gestartet. Die Söldnertruppe Wagner kämpft an der Seite regulärer Truppen im Nachbarland und ist seit Monaten vor allem im Raum Bachmut aktiv. Dort laufen die derzeit schwersten und blutigsten Kämpfe in der Ukraine mit hohen Verlusten auf beiden Seiten.
Selenskyj begründete den Einsatz für Bachmut: Ein Rückzug „würde die Kampffront erweitern und den russischen Streitkräften und Wagner die Möglichkeit geben, mehr von unserem Land einzunehmen“, sagte er in dem am Sonntag veröffentlichten Interview mit Al-Arabyia.
Russland treibt nach britischer Einschätzung die „Russifizierung“ der besetzten Gebieten in der Ukraine voran. So werde die Bevölkerung gezwungen, russische Pässe zu akzeptieren, teilte das Verteidigungsministerium in London am Montag unter Berufung auf Geheimdienstinformationen mit. „Bewohner im Gebiet Cherson wurden gewarnt, dass diejenigen, die bis zum 1. Juni 2023 keinen russischen Pass angenommen haben, „deportiert“ würden und ihr Besitz beschlagnahmt“, hieß es. 投開票された衆参5補欠選挙で4勝した自民党に唯一、衆院和歌山1区で競り勝った日本維新の会の新人、林佑美氏（41）が当選から一夜明けた 、南海和歌山市駅前で通勤客らに初当選を報告した。林氏は6万1720票を得て、自民元職に約6000票差で勝利。維新は和歌山の小選挙区で初めての議席を得た。
　午前 前、真っ白なパーカ姿で現れた林氏はさわやかな笑顔を見せ、「応援ありがとうございました」「いってらっしゃい」などと道行く人たちに声をかけた。求めに応じて握手や「グータッチ」で交流する場面もあった。
　林氏は に和歌山市議となり、政治の道を歩み始めたばかりだった。補選告示後は、毎日 間ほど選挙カーに乗ったといい、昨晩は「今まで経験のないことで疲れ、知らないうちに寝ていた」。選挙期間中は「古い政治をやめて」という声をたくさん聞いたといい、「有権者の皆さんが新しい政治を選んだのではないか」と勝因を分析した。
　私生活では3人の子を育てる母親。「必ず勝って」と声をかけてくれた息子たちの存在も選挙戦の活力になったという。「しがらみのないクリーンな政治」や教育無償化を訴えた林氏。「母親目線、女性目線で子育て支援の充実に一生懸命頑張りたい」と意気込んだ。
