Verdi plant bundesweiten Streik der Sicherheitskräfte an Flughäfen

0

Trump Is in a One-Sided Popularity Contest With Taylor Swift

0

Trump is in a one-sided popularity contest with Taylor Swift, writes Intelligencer’s Margaret Hartmann. And the masterminds on his 2024 campaign are reportedly plotting to wage war against one of America’s most popular and beloved celebrities.
Many people are already getting tired of the Taylor Swift–Travis Kelce discourse, though we still have another 12 days to go until the Chiefs play the 49ers at Super Bowl LVIII. But no one is more frustrated by the tale of Miss Americana and her football prince than Donald Trump. All the talk about the pop star’s staggering popularity reportedly has Trump privately fretting over the possibility that he is not the fairest one of all. And the issue isn’t just that someone is getting more attention than he is; it also seems likely that Swift will support his presidential rival, Joe Biden, again, per Rolling Stone:
Behind the scenes, Trump has reacted to the possibility of Biden and Swift teaming up against him this year not with alarm, but with an instant projection of ego. In recent weeks, the former president has told people in his orbit that no amount of A-list celebrity endorsements will save Biden. Trump has also privately claimed that he is “more popular” than Swift is and that he has more committed fans than she does, a person close to Trump and another source with knowledge of the matter tell Rolling Stone.
Last month, the source close to Trump adds, the ex-president commented to some confidants that it “obviously” made no sense that he was not named Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year — an honor that went to none other than Swift in December.
Trump is famously obsessed with being Time Person of the Year. (While he did actually win this very silly honor in 2016, he later lied about being offered a second title, and had fake Time covers featuring himself in several of his golf clubs). So it’s a safe bet that he’s going to pick a fight with whoever gets the annual Time seal of approval over him.
But Trump’s issues with Swift run deeper. While she initially tried to stay out of politics, she began occasionally speaking out against his policies toward the end of his administration. And in 2020 she endorsed Biden while threatening to vote Trump out:
After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November. @realdonaldtrump— Taylor Swift (@taylorswift13) May 29, 2020
Earlier this week, the New York Times reported that Swift is at the top of the Biden reelection campaign’s “wish lists of potential surrogates.” Independent of his relationship with Swift, Kelce has infuriated Trump supporters by starring in advertisements for Pfizer’s COVID vaccine and Bud Light, two of the right’s big culture-war targets.
MAGA World is already having a meltdown over the Swift-Kelce Bowl; various Trump surrogates including Vivek Ramaswamy, Jeanine Pirro, and even the former president’s lawyer, Alina Habba, have gone after the couple in recent days. And according to Rolling Stone, if Swift backs Biden again they plan to wage war against her:
Meanwhile, as Trump has been having a popularity contest with Swift in his own head, others close to him — including GOP operatives, some of his 2024 staff, and Trumpy media figures — have been brainstorming different ways to go after Swift. Since late last year, these Trump allies have repeatedly discussed how to turn the culture-warrior dial up to 11, if she re-endorses Biden this year, the sources recount.
“It would be more fuel thrown on to the culture-war fires,” says an official working on the Trump reelection efforts. “Another left-wing celebrity who is part of the Democrat elite telling you what to think.”
Publicly, members of Trump’s inner sanctum and social circle are already signaling Swift’s prominent position atop their enemies list — a situation that has reached fever pitch now that Swift’s boyfriend will once again be playing in the Super Bowl.
So, to paraphrase The Dark Knight, let me get this straight. They think that Swift, one of the wealthiest and most powerful women in the world, is so universally beloved that she can swing an election by merely tweeting some positive things about Joe Biden to her 95 million Twitter followers — and their plan is to launch an all-out attack on this person?

Glenn Close believes Robin Williams would still 'be alive' if Christopher Reeve hadn't died

Glenn Close believes Robin Williams would still be alive if „Superman“ star Christopher Reeve hadn’t died in 2004. The „Mrs. Doubtfire“ star died by suicide in 2014.
Christopher Reeve and Robin Williams‘ friendship could have been enough to save the comedian, according to a close Hollywood friend.
„Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,“ which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, shared the actor’s legacy 20 years after his death and featured interviews with many who called him a friend.
„I always felt that if Chris was still around, Robin would still be alive,“ actress Glenn Close said in the film, via The Guardian.
Reeve died in 2004 after a cardiac arrest at the age of 52. He had been confined to a wheelchair after a horseback riding accident left him paralyzed nine years before his death. Williams and Reeve roomed together while attending New York’s Juilliard School before they both rose to fame.
Williams and Reeve became closer than ever after the „Superman“ star’s spinal cord injury. The „Mrs. Doubtfire“ actor threw a party for Reeve every year on the anniversary of the accident.
Close has said before that Williams would be alive if Reeves had not died. While giving a speech at the „A Magical Evening“ Gala in 2017, the „Fatal Attraction“ star opened up about the friendship between Williams and Reeve she observed while filming „The World According to Garp“ with the comedian in 1982.
„On Friday evenings, Chris would literally swoop in, piloting his own plane, scoop Robin up, and away they would fly for the weekend. On Sunday, late afternoon, Chris would swoop back in and deliver Robin back. I have to say a little worse for wear.
„Those were the heady days for them both,“ she added, via Entertainment Tonight. „They were on top of the world. They were living the kind of fast and crazy life that our business can hand to you if you become a wildly famous phenomenon, practically overnight.
„Their friendship, their connection, is the stuff of legend. It not only endured, but became a life-giving force sustaining them both,“ Close revealed. „I am convinced that if Chris were still with us, Robin would be too.“
In the years before Williams‘ death in 2014, the actor was unaware he was dealing with Lewy body dementia. Williams reportedly appeared tired while on set and didn’t seem to be his usual self before he died by suicide Aug. 11, 2014.
The comedian was diagnosed with the neurological disorder posthumously after an autopsy was performed. Lewy body dementia is the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer’s. The disease affects brain regions involved in thinking, memory and movement, according to the Mayo Clinic.
The autopsy found no illegal drugs or alcohol in Williams‘ system.

Samsung rolling out Quick Share update with Google Nearby Share integration

0

Array
After debuting on the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung is now rolling out its new Quick Share app that adds support for Google’s Nearby Share.
A new update is now rolling out for Samsung’s Quick Share through the Galaxy Store which brings two main improvements. For one, the update brings support for a higher file size limit when sharing files via a QR code or sharing to contacts. The file limit is now 5GB, up from 3GB before.
The much bigger news, though, is that Samsung Quick Share is now integrated with Google’s Nearby Share.
Google announced at CES 2024 that Nearby Share and Quick Share would merge under the “Quick Share” brand, and Samsung is getting that out first with this upgrade. As we documented on the Galaxy S24 series earlier this month, the updated Quick Share on Samsung devices supports Nearby Share targets and legacy Quick Share targets. You sign in with both a Samsung account and a Google account, which offers quite a bit of flexibility.
You’ll also need an update to the Quick Share agent, also now rolling out via the Galaxy Store.
By integrating Google Nearby Share, Quick Share supports Content Sharing with nearby third-party Android devices
Increased upload limit per file when creating QR codes and using share to contacts (3GB → 5GB)
Apparently, as pointed out by Mishaal Rahman on Twitter/X, the new update doesn’t immediately disable the existing Nearby Share integration in One UI on older Galaxy devices like it is on the Galaxy S24 series. Some early users also claim that Nearby Share integration just doesn’t even work yet on these older devices, so it seems there may still be some further updates to finish up.
Are you seeing the update on your Galaxy device? Let us know in the comments.

Grammys 2024: Can anyone top Taylor Swift? Yes, we definitely think so

0

Taylor Swift? Olivia Rodrigo? SZA? Lana Del Rey? Miley Cyrus? Here are our predictions for which artists will triumph at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
SZA leads the pack with nine nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards, which certainly speaks to all that this amazing R&B vocalist has accomplished over the last year or so.
And she certainly could end up winning enough awards to fill a cabinet or two during “Music’s Biggest Night.”
Or, as shocking as it might sound, she could come up empty-handed when the trophies are handed out.
Yes, the level of competition at this year’s Grammy Awards is remarkably impressive. That’s especially true in the three of the evening’s biggest categories — album, song and record of the year — where SZA will go up against such heavyweights as Lana Del Rey, Olivia Rodrigo, Jon Batiste, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus and, as you can probably guess, Taylor Swift.
So many great artists. So many compelling storylines.
And we won’t know how it all turns out until the last award is handed out on Feb. 4 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Yet, that won’t stop us from trying to predict who will win the biggie “general field” categories, where artists from all different genres compete for top honors. Besides the three mentioned above, there is also the hotly contested best new artist category, where hip-hop star Ice Spice will square off against country/rap talent Jelly Roll, R&B/pop singer Victoria Monét and others.
Here are predictions for who will take home Grammy gold. Beyond the awards, the show will also feature performances by Dua Lipa, Eilish, Rodrigo, Luke Combs, Travis Scott and others. Follow all the action beginning at 5 p.m. on CBS and Paramount +.Album of the Year
The nominees: “World Music Radio,” Jon Batiste; “the record,” boygenius; “Endless Summer Vacation,” Miley Cyrus; “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd,” Lana Del Rey; “The Age of Pleasure,” Janelle Monáe; “GUTS,” Olivia Rodrigo; “Midnights,” Taylor Swift; “SOS,” SZA
The skinny: The music industry has finally realized something that fans have long known — Lana Del Rey is one of popular music’s greatest artists of the last 10-plus years. So, a victory for “Tunnel” would serve as further confirmation of that status.
There’s also a case to be made for Olivia Rodrigo, who followed up the blockbuster debut “Sour” — and the resulting best new artist triumph at the 2022 Grammys — by releasing a sophomore effort that some consider to be the best album of 2023.
Of course, the indie supergroup boygenius — featuring Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus — is a massive critical favorite and can’t be counted out. Same for Jon Batiste, who just won this category in ’22 with “We Are.”
Yet, none of those artists seem to have much a chance against Taylor Swift, who set record after record with her 10th studio album. Crowning Swift in this category — for a landmark fourth time — would serve as a fitting punctuation mark on what was most certainly the Year of Taylor.
So, why does it seem like the wrong choice?
The answer is “SOS.”
“Midnights” is a terrific effort, yet it doesn’t really stand out from Swift’s many other equally enjoyable albums. It’s just a piece of the puzzle in what is arguably the single best discography that any artist has put together in the 21st Century.
On the other hand, “SOS” feels like nothing short of a stone-cold classic, which people will long be referencing among the most soulful platters of the 2020s. It also was the album that really took its author to a whole new level of superstardom.
It’s wild to think that a win for such a wonderfully artistic and commercially successful album could be seen as an upset. Yet, in world that seems to view pop music as Taylor Swift and everyone else, that’s exactly what a “SOS” victory would be.
We’d be fine with “Midnights” winning. But that’s not where our vote would go. So, we’re calling the upset.
The winner: “SOS”Record of the Year
The nominees: “Worship,” Jon Batiste; “Not Strong Enough,” boygenius; “Flowers,” Miley Cyrus; “What Was I Made For?” Billie Eilish; “On My Mama,” Victoria Monét; “Vampire,” Olivia Rodrigo; “Anti-Hero,” Taylor Swift; “Kill Bill, SZA
The skinny: Award shows love Billie Eilish, who has already won seven Grammys (as well as an Oscar) in her still-quite-young career. Yet, she seemingly has a much better chance of winning her second Academy Award in March with her “Barbie” number than she does record of the year on Sunday.
And we don’t feel like “Anti-Hero” is anywhere close to first-tier Swift material, a statement that we realize probably will result in 418,467 angry emails from Swifties.
The category probably breaks down as a three-way race between “Kill Bill,” “Vampires” and “Flowers,” the last of which would seemingly be the favorite.
Although we prefer the SZA and Rodrigo offerings, “Flowers” is indeed exactly the type of empowering self-love anthem that Grammy voters tend to embrace.
The winner: “Flowers”Song of the Year
(Award given to songwriters)
The nominees: “A&W,” Jack Antonoff, Lana Del Rey and Sam Dew, songwriters (Lana Del Rey); “Anti-Hero,” Jack Antonoff and Taylor Swift, songwriters (Taylor Swift); “Butterfly,” Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson, songwriters (Jon Batiste); “Dance the Night,” Ailin, Dua Lipa, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, songwriters (Dua Lipa); “Flowers,” Miley Cyrus, Gregory Aldae Hein and Michael Pollack, songwriters (Miley Cyrus); “Kill Bill,” Rob Bisel, Carter Lang and Solána Rowe, songwriters (SZA); “Vampire,” Daniel Nigro and Olivia Rodrigo, songwriters (Olivia Rodrigo); “What Was I Made For?” Billie Eilish O’Connell and Finneas O’Connell, songwriters (Billie Eilish)
The skinny: “Dance the Night” and “What Was I Made For?” both hail from the same film so it’s easy to see those two numbers splitting the “Barbie” vote.” “Flowers” makes sense, but let’s assume that it won’t win both song and record of the year trophies. After all, there are just too many great artists deserving to be recognized on Grammy night, so we don’t see any one act dominating these biggie awards.
Along that same line of reasoning, we’d love to see “Kill Bill” get the “w,” but we’ve already placed our bet on “SOS” triumphing in the album category. “Vampire” could sneak out a victory here, though, for sure.
Yet, the safe money is that Jack Antonoff will end up with this award in his hand – for one of the two nominees that he co-wrote.
You already know our feeling on the Antonoff-Swift offering. Well, we feel the exact opposite way about the brilliant avant-garde work that he did with Del Rey.
But, come on. Is there any conceivable way that the mighty Swift ends up losing in all three of these general field categories?
Well, let us finish off our root beer floats and think about it for a minute.
The winner: “A&W”Best New Artist
The nominees: Gracie Abrams, Fred Again, Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, Victoria Monét, The War and Treaty
The skinny: There are some fascinating choices here. Start with the country-folk-soul duo The War and Treaty, whose major label debut, “Lover’s Game,” is nothing short of astounding. Then there’s Jelly Roll, the Tennessee country/rap/rock artist who had millions singing along to “Son of a Sinner.”
And you can’t count out Noah Kahan, whose legions of fans don’t seem to realize that he’s really not all that good, or the talented Gracie “daughter of J.J.” Abrams.
The award could well go go to Victoria Monét, whose seven overall nods ties her with Phoebe Bridgers for second-most nominations this year. (In case you missed it up top, SZA leads all comers with nine nominations).
Still, the favorite in the race appears to be Ice Spice, who seemed to go from relative unknown to household name in the blink of the eye as she collaborated with Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj, charted several top 10 songs and had us all singing along to “Barbie’s World.”
It’s hard to call for an upset here — but “Lover’s Game” is such a great album and its authors could be making terrific music for decades to come. So, well, let’s go for it and hope voters agree.
The winner: The War and TreatyOther races
Best Pop Vocal Album — Swifties need not worry that their favorite music star will go home empty-handed, since “Midnights” will likely triumph over Miley Cyrus’ “Endless Summer Vacation” and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Guts” as the top pop platter.
Best Música Mexicana Album — Peso Pluma will win for the amazing “Génesis,” yet that won’t quite make up for the ridiculous snub of being left out of the best new artist category.
Best Rock Album — We’re partial to Metallica’s excellent “72 Seasons,” but our hunch is that the gold will go to the Foo Fighters, who dealt with the loss of Taylor Hawkins and still delivered a fine “But Here We Are.”
Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song — So many great offerings here, including Cody Carnes’ “Firm Foundation (He Won’t)” and the For King & Country/Jordin Sparks collaboration “Love Me Like I Am,” yet Lauren Daigle’s “Thank God I Do” is the clear favorite.
Best R&B Performance — Sorry Robert Glasper, Coco Jones, Victoria Monét and Chris Brown, but nobody is beating SZA’s “Kill Bill” here.
Best Rap Album — We’re calling for Killer Mike to top the bigger names (like Drake, Travis Scott and Nas) and walk away with the trophy for “Michael.”
Best Musical Theater Album — “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” with Annaleigh Ashford and Josh Groban as the principal vocalists, will surely win. Yet, we much prefer “Kimberly Akimbo.”
Best Country Solo Performance — Anything other than Luke Combs’ cover of “Fast Car” is fine with us.

Mass Effect is coming to Destiny 2 next month in new collaboration event

If your interests exist squarely within the Venn diagram of Mass Effect and Destiny 2, your day is almost here: Bungie …
If your interests exist squarely within the Venn diagram of Mass Effect and Destiny 2, your day is almost here: Bungie has announced it’s teaming up with EA and BioWare to bring Commander Shepard and company – or at least something vaguely inspired by them – to its free-to-play shooter as part of a new collaboration event.
As per Bungie’s announcement, the ‚Destiny 2 x BioWare‘ team-up will enable Destiny 2 players to „join the crew of the Normandy“ from 13th February – which all sounds very exciting until it finishes its sentence, „with new cosmetics and in-game items“.
On the premium cosmetics front, a new Normandy Crew Bundle will be available in the Eververse store once the event begins, containing a Commander Shepard-inspired N7 armour set for Titans, a Garrus-inspired Vakarian set for Hunters, and a Liara-inspired Shadow Broker set for Warlocks. An Omni Strike finisher and Flux Dance will also be available for Silver.
If you’d prefer to avoid the Mass Effect micro-transaction jamboree, you’ll also be able to pick up the free Alliance Requisitions Bundle while the event is live, featuring the Enhanced Defense Ghost Shell, Alliance Scout Frigate ship, and Alliance Drop Ship Sparrow.
Today’s Mass Effect crossover announcement arrives alongside the news Destiny 2’s Riven’s Wishes event has now begun. Running until 12th March, it introduces weekly pursuits where players can earn tokens to spend on Last Wish raid Deepsight weapons, Exotic gear from the Lightfall year, plus event mementos and Ascendant crafting materials. Additionally, the Moments of Triumph event – which „sets the stage before The Final Shape“ – runs from today until 3rd June, as detailed in Bungie’s post.
Destiny 2’s climactic The Final Shape expansion was originally set to launch next month, but November brought the news Bungie would be delaying its release until 4th June 2024 so it could „become exactly what we want it to be“. The delay followed layoffs at Bungie in October, which are believed to have affected around 100 employees.

Samsung Hints It May Charge A Galaxy AI Fee Sometime After 2025, Would You Pony Up?

0

Galaxy AI will be free for Galaxy S24 customers, but that might change next year as Samsung looks to monetize AI investments.
T.M. Roh, president of Samsung Electronics’ mobile business, hinted that Galaxy AI features might require customers to pay a fee of some kind in the future. Galaxy AI is one of the big, new additions the company is adding to its Galaxy S24 line of phones as it does battle with Apple for top spot in the mobile market. Access to Galaxy AI will be free for customers who buy into the Galaxy S24 ecosystem.Samsung believes that it can serve differing needs of customers by breaking out certain AI features into a level that requires payment to use it, most likely a subscription. Roh says „according to our analysis, there are various needs for mobile AI. So, there will be consumers who will be satisfied with using the AI capabilities for free. Then there could also be customers who wish for even more powerful Al capabilities, and even pay for them.“
Roh pointed out that Samsung is investing heavily to develop these AI features, so it was only a matter of time until the massive Korean conglomerate decided it needed to start monetizing them. The company hopes to have Galaxy AI running on 100 million devices across the globe, so it’s certainly a big opportunity to generate a new stream of revenue.
However, Samsung will need to tread carefully when rolling out these monetization plans. People in general are starting to show subscription fatigue as more and more services look to get customers into this type of payment plan. Not only that, but as smartphones have started to plateau in terms of design, Samsung is hoping to spur growth by touting AI as the next big thing for its mobile phones. Will this work if customers know they’ll have to pay to get the most interesting features? We’ll most likely find out the answer to this question starting in 2025.
