Jannik Sinner willing to lose some matches if it means being "less predictable"

0

Jannik Sinner knows he needs to be more creative if he wants to match Carlos Alcaraz the next time.
Jannik Sinner was overpowered by Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open final and lost World No. 1 to the Spaniard. Despite seeming unstoppable at this time last year, as well as defeating Carlos at Wimbledon earlier in the summer, Alcaraz still dominates over Sinner, 10 victories for the Spaniard vs. 5 wins for the Italian. This year, Jannik only beat Carlos at Wimbledon, while Carlos beat Jannik in New York, Paris, Rome and Cincinnati (that time, however, Sinner was ill).
Jannik Sinner had no problem giving credit to Alcaraz, admitting he was better than him in the award ceremony. Speaking later at the press conference, Sinner found out why Alcaraz beat him: he was more creative with the game and tried more things, while Sinner was „very predictable“.
„He did many things, he changed up the game. That’s also his style of how he plays. Now it’s going to be on me if I want to make changes or not. That’s definitely [what] we are going to work on. I’m trying to be more prepared for the next match that I will play against him.“
Sinner elaborated: he arrived at the final comfortably (only lost two sets before the final), but always did the same things, putting one example: he didn’t make one serve-volley or use a lot of drop shots in the tournament. With the rest, his powerful serve might be enough, but not against Carlos.
While Sinner has been usually more consistent, and Alcaraz has had more ups and dowsn, Sinner knows he needs to take some risks if he wants to catch Alcaraz at his best level. „I’m going to aim to maybe even lose some matches from now on, but trying to do some changes, trying to be a bit more unpredictable as a player, because I think that’s what I have to do, trying to become a better tennis player. At the end of the day, that’s my main goal.“
As the first and second seeded players, Alcaraz and Sinner could meet again at the Shanghai Open final on October 12, where Jannik will be defending 1,000 points, while Alcaraz will only defend 200 points, so he could increase the distance at the ATP ranking.

Ravens Make Unfortunate NFL History in Week 1 Loss to Bills

0

The Ravens suffered another heartbreaking loss to the Bills to start the new NFL season, and in doing so, they made the wrong kind of history.
Arguably, the biggest matchup in Week 1 of the new NFL season was the Baltimore Ravens visiting the Buffalo Bills. It was a rematch of last season’s divisional round playoff game, as well as a matchup between quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, who finished second and first, respectively, in the MVP balloting in 2024.
This game was an instant classic. Baltimore took control in the second quarter and held a 40-25 lead in the fourth quarter before Allen led a spirited comeback that culminated with a Matt Prater field goal with no time left. The Bills won, 41-40.
For Baltimore, running back Derrick Henry ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns while wide receiver Zay Flowers had seven catches for 143 yards. Overall, it ran for 238 yards and three touchdowns, as Jackson logged 70 yards and a touchdown on the ground to go along with his 209 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.
It meant that the Ravens set a new NFL record by becoming the first team to score at least 40 points and establish at least 235 rushing yards in a loss. Teams that had put up such numbers had previously won 277 consecutive games.
There is no doubt that the Ravens have plenty of firepower, between Jackson, Henry, Flowers, and tight end Mark Andrews. This season, they also have veteran wideout DeAndre Hopkins, a five-time Pro Bowler who has gone over the 1,000-yard mark seven times in 12 previous seasons.
Last season, the Ravens were third in points and first downs and first in rushing yards and total yards. But they lost by two points to Buffalo in the divisional round after Andrews fumbled a Jackson pass late in the fourth quarter on a two-point conversion try that would’ve tied the score.
Baltimore has been knocking on the door of true Super Bowl contention over the last few years, but it has been unable to get over the hump and reach the big game. It has resulted in Jackson being tarred with the reputation of being unable to get things done deep in the playoffs.
But despite Sunday’s loss, perhaps a spry Hopkins could make the difference for the team. After all, Jackson set career highs last season with 4,172 passing yards, 41 touchdown passes and an NFL-high 119.6 passer rating, and at age 28, he is firmly in his prime.
An argument could be made that he and not Allen deserved last season’s MVP award.

The Conjuring: Last Rites makes Warner Bros. history after scoring second-biggest horror opening of all-time

0

Thanks to yet another hit, Warner Bros. has now had 7 consecutive movies open with more than $40 million.
The Conjuring: Last Rites has proven yet again this year that horror is back in a big way, as the final chapter for The Conjuring saga has scored the second-biggest opening weekend for a horror movie ever, drawing in $187 million globally.
As noted by Variety, this not only scores The Conjuring: Last Rites a great opening on a $55 million budget, but it also gives Warner Bros. a piece of box office history, as it is the first studio to have 7 consecutive movies open to more than $40 million.
After a pretty poor start to the year, coming out of Joker: Folie a Deux and stumbling with Mickey 17 and The Alto Knights, Warner Bros. hit its stride once more with A Minecraft Movie. Since then, the likes of Sinners, Weapons, Final Destination: Bloodlines, the F1 movie, and Superman have kept the studio in the green.
Warner Bros. has reportedly earned around $600 million in theatrical profits so far this year. Most of its movies that made more than $40 million in their opening weekends also stuck around for a long time, gathering even more profit as the good word spread about good movies.

This man evaded police for years driving an F1 on public roads. Now, he's finally caught

Czech authorities arrest the driver behind the „Phantom“ car on highways.
Just a few days ago, we launched the cars section at Gamereactor, run by Petter, who is, among other things, a big fan of racing cars. Now, if you share his passion for racing cars, you’ve probably dreamed of driving an F1 on public roads. Well, one man from the Czech Republic has been doing just that for years. Until, of course, he finally got caught on Sunday, according to Czech police.
After years of dodging law enforcement, the man, famous for racing an F1-style car on public highways, has been apprehended. Nicknamed the „Phantom“, the bright red car became a viral sensation among motorsport fans while frustrating police. The driver, now in his early fifties, was tracked to his home after repeated sightings near a petrol station. Authorities used patrol cars and a helicopter to intercept him, though he remained silent when questioned. The car, an ultra-rare racing model, isn’t street-legal, but the driver’s family insists it was never driven recklessly. There’s footage dating back years, suggesting he may have been running errands in an F1 for quite a while. And of course, a picture (or video, in this case) might be worth a thousand words, so check out the footage below or follow the link to see for yourself. Go!

September 1929 in Berlin geboren.

Google hasn't even announced these new Nest devices, but they're already on store shelves

Some of Google’s upcoming Nest devices are already being stocked up at retailers before the expected launch next month.
Google’s upcoming Nest Cam and Doorbell are already appearing in retail stores.
A user spotted them at Home Depot along with their prices.
Google is expected to showcase new smart home devices on October 1 alongside Gemini for Google Home.
Reddit user Qowudyeibflsla (via 9to5Google) recently spotted the upcoming Nest indoor and outdoor cameras, along with the latest smart doorbell, at Home Depot. While the new products appear identical to the older ones, Google is using emphasizing their ability to record at 2K resolution by specifying that as part of the branding.
Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?
Alongside putting the new devices on shelves, Home Depot also appears to have revealed their prices. It’s unclear whether these are just placeholders or the actual prices, but this is what the leak says:
Nest Doorbell 2K: $179.99
Nest Cam Indoor 2K (wired, 3rd Gen): $99.99
Nest Cam Outdoor 2K (wired, 2nd Gen): $149.99
The images shared by the Redditor also showcase a set of Nest Learning Thermostats. While it does not mention the generation, these could be the upcoming version, which leaked about a month ago. Since Google is also ending support for older Thermostats in October, newer versions would make for perfect upgrades for existing users.
Although these devices were originally shown as locked behind a wire mesh, we removed the mesh using Google’s Nano Banana for a clearer view. It’s unclear if these devices are now available for sale, but another user commented on the post saying they tried to buy it last week but were denied.
Google’s October 1 event is expected to be packed with announcements about new Nest devices, with Google Home’s revamp featuring Gemini. With this upgrade, smart speakers are likely to be able to understand longer and more complex voice commands more easily.
As with Alexa+, we can expect early models to be left out. However, these details are unlikely to be available before the launch. Besides announcing these advancements, Google is also expected to discuss how it plans to integrate Gemini’s free and paid tiers into services and features for Home devices.

Rywalizację w Teksasie wygrało Porsche #6 w składzie Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanhoor i Matt Campbell.

The Hyundai-LG EV battery plant in Georgia has become the focus of a diplomatic dispute after U.S. immigration authorities detained hundreds of South Korean workers over suspected visa violations.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed the arrest of 475 individuals on Thursday, most of them South Korean nationals, according to the BBC. Many were allegedly working while on short-term visitor visas, which do not permit employment in the U.S. The detainees are being held at an ICE facility in Folkston, Georgia, while officials decide next steps.
The South Korean government responded immediately, sending diplomats to Georgia and holding an emergency meeting in Seoul. Foreign Minister Cho Hyun voiced concern for the citizens arrested and urged Washington to protect the rights of Korean workers and the business activities of Korean companies.
Hyundai Motor clarified that none of those detained were its direct employees. Its joint venture partner, LG Energy Solution, emphasized that employee safety remained its top priority and pledged cooperation with U.S. authorities.
ICE also reported that among those detained was a Mexican national and U.S. green card holder with prior convictions for narcotics and firearms. Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Steven Schrank defended the raid, stressing that foreign workers must be brought in legally and warning that companies undermining the U.S. workforce would be held accountable.
The Hyundai-LG EV battery plant employs around 1,200 people and has been described as the largest economic development project in Georgia’s history. The facility is central to U.S. efforts to expand domestic EV production but the raid highlights the challenge of balancing foreign investment with strict immigration enforcement.
President Donald Trump defended ICE’s actions on Friday, saying the agency was “just doing its job.” While he acknowledged the importance of ties with allies, he reaffirmed his administration’s priority of ensuring a stable and legal workforce.
