US Imposes Sanctions On Russia, Iran, North Korea

0

The House and Senate released a deal Saturday that imposed sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea for undermining American interests.
The House and Senate released a deal Saturday and gave Congress new veto power to block any easing of the sanctions, which was put on Russia, toughening the position of President Donald Trump. The bill also imposed sanctions on Iran and North Korea.
„North Korea, Iran, and Russia have in different ways all threatened their neighbors and actively sought to undermine American interests, “ the  press release  of the Foreign Affairs Committee stated. „The bill the House will vote on next week will now exclusively focus on these nations and hold them accountable for their dangerous actions.“
Last month, an earlier version of the sanctions legislation was passed in the Senate with an overwhelming majority of 98-2, but it focused only on Russia and Iran. It was then delayed in the House after representatives demanded that even North Korea, which has been posing a danger to the U. S. with its ballistic missile program, should be included. That issue was resolved after Saturday’s release of the bill, lawmakers said, according to reports.

The bill intends to punish Moscow for its 2014 annexation of Crimea — a peninsula claimed by Ukraine, and for its alleged interference in the 2016 presidential election.
The bill would also impose penalties on anyone involved in Iran’s ballistic-missile program or persons, entities who do business with them. It also intends to apply „terrorism sanctions“ to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and enforce an arms embargo.
In regards to North Korea, the bill aimed at stopping the nation’s nuclear program and will also attempt to exhaust funds from the government so that it is not able to sponsor its nuclear program.
According to the bill, Trump can send Congress a report elaborating on his reasons of why he wants to suspend or terminate a particular set of sanctions after which lawmakers would have 30 days to decide whether to allow the move or reject it, Fox News  reported.
They are hoping to approve the sanctions before leaving Washington for the August recess.
Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer of Maryland said: „I’ m pleased that both parties in the House and Senate have reached agreement on sanctions legislation that will hold Russia and Iran accountable for their destabilizing actions around the world, “ according to Hoyer’s  official website .

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi asserted Russia should be punished with stricter sanctions for its role during last year’s election and in Europe. She said: “Even though the Senate passed legislation to do just that by a margin of 98 to 2, I am concerned by changes insisted upon by Republicans that give the GOP leadership the sole power to originate actions in the House to prevent the Trump Administration from rolling back sanctions, “ according to her official website.
Pelosi also said the addition of North Korea in the sanctions package „does not prevent Congress from immediately enacting Russia sanctions legislation and sending it to the President’s desk before the August recess.“

Rookie Scott Blumstein won the series‘ marquee no-limit Texas Hold ‚em main event early Sunday in Las Vegas. He eliminated another poker main event rookie, Daniel Ott, of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the 246th hand of the final table.
Blumstein’s ace of hearts and two of diamonds were stronger than Ott’s hand.
Blumstein says he had to „battle pretty deep“ and he’s „really happy with the result.“
Late Saturday night, Frenchman Benjamin Pollak was eliminated in third place.

New Jersey’s Scott Blumstein is this year’s World Series of Poker champion.
The 25-year-old won the series‘ marquee no-limit Texas Hold ‚em main event early Sunday in Las Vegas. He’s now more than $8.1 million richer.
Blumstein is from Brigantine, New Jersey. He eliminated another poker main event rookie, Daniel Ott, of Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the 246th hand of the final table.
Blumstein’s ace of hearts and two of diamonds were stronger than Ott’s hand.
Ott went all in with ace of diamonds and eight of diamonds. The community cards were a jack of spades, a six of spades, a five of hearts, a seven of hearts and a two of hearts.
Blumstein is also taking home a gold bracelet made from white and yellow gold and diamonds and rubies.

Poker pro Benjamin Pollak has gone out in third place at the no-limit Texas Hold ‚em main event of the World Series of Poker
The Frenchman was eliminated Saturday, the third day of play at the final table. He leaves the premier tournament with $3.5 million.
He started the day with over 45 million chips and put his last 35.6 million on the line on queen of clubs and 10 of diamonds. But the chip leader of the final table had the strongest hand out of the three remaining players.
Scott Blumstein of Brigantine, New Jersey, increased his chip count to more than 232 million with his ace of hearts and queen of spades. Meanwhile, Daniel Ott of Altoona, Pennsylvania, reached a 128 million chip count with king of clubs and nine of diamonds.
The community cards laid out on the table were jack of spades, three of diamonds, king of diamonds, four of clubs and six of spades.
Blumstein and Ott are vying for a grand prize of over $8.1 million.

An accounting error paused play for a few minutes at the final table of the no-limit Texas Hold ‚em main event of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
Organizers were forced to recount chips Saturday after a hand in which Daniel Ott doubled up to almost 70 million, while Benjamin Pollak dropped to about 23.3 million. But Pollak did not have that amount of chips in front of him after the hand.
Series spokesman Seth Palansky says 10 million chips were miscounted. He says the dealer had pulled chips from Pollak’s stack, but he was unaware and ended up paying Ott, too.
Chips have no monetary value in the tournament. Each player will have to lose all his chips before he is eliminated from the final table.
Pollak, Ott and Scott Blumstein are the three remaining players vying for a grand prize of more than $8.1 million.

At FYF Fest, Frank Ocean returned to a local stage, and early on proved to be as unpredictable as ever

Frank Ocean’s long awaited return to a local stage is over. Anchoring the second night of FYF Fest, Ocean performed for the first time…
Here’s what’s new and interesting in entertainment and the arts:
Frank Ocean’s long awaited return to a local stage is over.
Anchoring the second night of FYF Fest, Ocean performed for the first time in the States since the summer of 2014. Opening with an extended take on his single „Solo, “ Ocean’s set began with a lengthy overture and the singer asking for the audience to be patient with him as he caught his groove. „I’m just finding my moment, y’all are gonna have to wait a minute, “ he said after slowly emerging via a catwalk that extended to a secondary stage deep into the Exposition Park crowd a little over 10 minutes after his set was to start .
During his three year absence, the anticipation for his comeback turned into frustration — so much so fans wondered if Ocean would even show for tonight’s engagement. In 2015 he was booked for a headlining slot at FYF, inciting rumors that the follow-up to his Grammy-winning 2012 major label debut, “Channel Orange, ” was immanent.
It was buzz he had created earlier that year when he took to his Tumblr to post a picture of himself looking down at a stack of magazines called Boys Don’ t Cry. His reps confirmed the arrival of a new album and an accompanying publication.
But days before the 2015 festival, he pulled out, leaving organizers to turn to Kanye West as an 11th hour replacement.
Last summer, after years of whispers, Ocean returned with not one but two projects: visual album “Endless” and his official album “Blonde, ” but both records were almost overshadowed by label drama and his lack of conventional promotion.
Fans, understandably, were on edge leading into Saturday’s performance. Even recently, Ocean has proven to be unpredictable. The experimental R&B singer had earlier this year pulled out of Alabama’s Hangout Music Festival and Washington’s Sasquatch! Music Festival. As Ocean was running a few minutes behind, a male fan was heard wondering, „Is he even gonna show?“
But he did, and even early in his set he proved to be unconventional. Near the beginning of his performance, during a rendition of „Good Guy, “ Ocean halted the show.
„This is my disclaimer, “ he said. „This is my fourth show since coming back. We are gonna try things over if they get (messed) up and this is one of those instances.“

Princes William, Harry remember their final call with Diana

LONDON (AP) – It was a typical phone call between two boys and their mother, who was on vacation in France. It was brief – the boys wanted to get back to playing with their cousins, not spend time on the phone chatting.
The brevity of that 1997 call haunts Prince William and Prince Harry to this day – for their mother, Princess Diana, would die in a car crash that night.
„Harry and I were in a desperate rush to say goodbye, you know ’see you later’… If I’d known now obviously what was going to happen I wouldn’t have been so blase about it and everything else, “ William says in a new documentary. „But that phone call sticks in my mind, quite heavily.“
Harry tells the filmmakers the final chat is something he will regret until the end of his days.
„Looking back on it now, it’s incredibly hard. I’ll have to sort of deal with that for the rest of my life, “ Harry said. „Not knowing that was the last time I was going to speak to my mum. How differently that conversation would have panned out if I’d had even the slightest inkling her life was going to be taken that night.“
The ITV documentary „Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy“ is airing Monday on British TV. Excerpts from the film, and new family photographs, were released Sunday.
The show is one of a series of tributes to Diana expected as the 20th anniversary of her death on August 31,1997, approaches.
It is only in the last year that William and Harry have spoken openly in public about their feelings about the sudden loss of their mother. William – second-in-line for the British throne after his father Prince Charles – was only 15 at the time. Harry was only 12.
The documentary chronicles Diana’s charitable works, including her historic outreach to AIDS victims and her campaign to ban land mines.
William and Harry also stress their mother’s fun-loving side, which they say the public generally didn’t see.
„Our mother was a total kid through and through. When everybody says to me ’so she was fun, give us an example, ‚ all I can hear is her laugh in my head, “ says Harry.
William tells a story that reveals the privileged life they led as children. One day, Diana surprised him by having three of the world’s top models waiting for him when he got home from school.
„She organized when I came home from school to have Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell waiting at the top of the stairs. I was probably a 12- or 13-year-old boy who had posters of them on his wall, “ William said. „I went bright red and didn’t know quite what to say. And sort of fumbled and I think pretty much fell down the stairs on the way up.“
William says he frequently tells his children – Prince George, 4, and Princess Charlotte, 2 – about Diana so she can be a presence in her grandchildren’s lives.
„She’d be a lovely grandmother. She’d absolutely love it, she’d love the children to bits, “ he said.

90 hospitalized during Chance the Rapper concert

0

More than 90 people were hospitalized in Connecticut during a concert headlined by musician Chance the Rapper, authorities said.
„Additional steps will have to be taken to address these issues at these concerts, “ he said.
The three-time Grammy Award winner was part of the lineup during Hot 93.7’s Hot Jam concert at Xfinity Theatre in Hartford.
Foley told the Hartford Courant that 90 people hospitalized is more than the average on a regular night.
„A typical concert is around 20-30 transports. Sixty would be very bad. We had 70 once and 90 last night, “ Foley told the newspaper.
The number was so high, Hartford’s ambulance provider had to seek extra help, with some patients transported to hospitals in Farmington, Manchester and New Britain, Fire Capt. Raul Ortiz said.
Artists Kyle, PnB Rock and ANoyd also performed at the event.

Using IntelliJ IDEA to Develop Apps With Grails 3 [Video] Using IntelliJ IDEA to Develop Apps With Grails 3 [Video]

0

This video and Q& A session demonstrate the synergy between IntelliJ IDEA and Grails 3, including what’s new from Grails 2 and the fresh support the IDE offers.
Last Thursday, we had a pleasure to host a live webinar with Jeff Scott Brown, the founder of the Grails framework. Jeff gave a comprehensive overview of the Grails 3 support in IntelliJ IDEA (both Community and Ultimate.)
In case you missed it, here’s a recording along with a transcript of the Q&A session. Enjoy!
During the webinar Jeff and I answered a number of questions, so I am posting their transcriptions here.
GORM, among other Grails concepts, is fully supported by IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate. Community Edition doesn’ t include this. If you want this support in Community Edition, make sure your classes implement the corresponding traits explicitly.
IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate supports auto-reload out of the box. In Community Edition, you have to manually add “-noverify“ to the VM options (to disable the bytecode verifier) in your Run Configuration.
Currently, the biggest difference is the dedicated support for Grails 3. AFAIK, Eclipse (GGTS) doesn’ t support Grails 3.
Use the Grails command “ grails war ”, and then deploy it to GlassFish as a regular WAR file.
If we’ re talking about simultaneously working with two separate applications in one IDE, then the best way to do that would be to use a multiple project Gradle build. If it’s about using GWT on top of Grails, check our the GWT Grails plugin.
Check out the official GORM website .
It’s really mature, but if you have any specific concerns, you can always contact the Grails team.
Yes, IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate offers diagrams for domain classes. To access diagrams, open the domain class, and switch to the Diagram tab in the bottom of the editor.
Check out the official documentation .

‘Downmall’ is a wild mountain bike race through a shopping mall

0

Watch these Russian mountain bikers ride a radical downmall trail that includes jumps over rails, bumps, and steep descents down escalators.
What do you do when you want to go mountain biking and can’ t find a decent trail? If you live in Russia, you take your bike to the local shopping mall and find a downmall race. All it takes is a few months of planning, several hours of building and plenty of time racing along a radical trail that includes jumps over rails, bumps, and downhills that send you flying down escalators.
The mountain bike event is known as a downmall race, which converts a shopping mall into a mountain bike course. The Russian version of the race is an annual competition held each year at a different mall in Russia. Now in its fourth year of competition, the race on June 24,2017 will take place at a mall in Vladivostok, a major port city located near Russia’s eastern border with China and North Korea.
Russia’s 2017 Downmall race attracted more than 30 bikers who pedaled along a 750-yard track that spanned four of the floors inside the mall. Racers had to traverse wooden obstacles constructed specifically for the race and mall obstacles such as benches, escalators, and more. According to Vocativ, race directors spent months planning the route, creating a course that was challenging for the racers, exciting for the onlookers, but still safe for competitors and the crowd alike.
The Russian downmall race isn’ t unique to Russia. This style of competition is gaining in popularity across Europe and South America. Europe has a variety of individual races and even a series of Downmall races that bring competitors to a handful of malls in Europe. In 2016, the Downmall series raced in Hannover, Berlin, and Frankfurt in Germany, Budapest, Hungary; Bratislava, Slovakia; and Prague, Czech Republic. Event organizers in 2017 have hosted three Downmall races in Budapest, Frankfurt, and Prague.
These Downmall races are part of a bigger movement in the mountain biking community known as urban downhill racing, which brings mountain biking away from the mountains and into the heart of a city, and is a great outlet for pro riders looking for some adventure in the off season. Besides mall events, urban downhill racing events include wild rides down narrow streets, flights of stairs, ramps, with obstacles like shipping containers adding to the fun. This style of racing has attracted enough of a following that races are now held worldwide. There’s even a very competitive series, the City Downhill World Tour, which has been hosting races since 1999 and wrapped up its latest circuit at the end of 2016.

How to make $100,000 a month in China, live-streaming your life

0

Brother Li has risen to the top of the charts and is making a fortune in a country where 350 million have downloaded a live-streaming app.
From a studio in the northern city of Shenyang, Yu, who goes by Brother Li, spends hours a day broadcasting on YY, a social network run by tech giant Tencent. When he cracks a joke (which is often) or gives a shout out (ditto) , fans send him “virtual gifts, ” which represent real money.
His show is a mix of chitchat, music and humor, all steeped in “dongbei, ” or “northeast, ” culture. He also founded and runs a talent agency, Wudi Media, which trains and promotes wannabe online stars.
Although live-streaming is popular many places, including the United States, China’s broadcasting boom, like much here, is bigger. About half of China’s 700 million Internet users have tried live-streaming apps — that’s more than the population of the United States.
In America, social media influencers make money off of ads and endorsements. Some Chinese stars do, too, but most of the money comes directly from fans in the form of gifts — sort of like a virtual tip jar. China’s live-stream market was worth at least $3 billion in 2016, up 180 percent year over year, according to iResearch. The sector will soon generate more money than the Chinese movie box office, analysts predict.
The pace of change tracks  explosive growth in the country’s tech space, part of a government push to shift from manufacturing and resource extraction to a service economy powered, in part, by the Web.
While U. S. firms such as Facebook and Google remain blocked in China, Tencent and other local companies are thriving. YY started as a gaming portal but has grown into a social communication platform that is a leader in live-streaming.
As a Rust Belt kid who built a digital firm backed by Big Tech, Yu could not be more on message. But his experience also shows the limits of the state’s tech-utopian plans.
China’s new economy, it turns out, looks a lot like the old one. Same face, new filter.
Watching Yu’s nightly broadcasts, what’s most striking is not the streaming speed, but how status quo things feel, from the sidelining of women, to the push and pull between censors and creators, to the difficulty of spreading the benefits beyond the few.
Yu comes from a hardscrabble stretch of the North China plain, the region once known as Manchuria. By 16, he was hustling for mechanic gigs in a small city. When he wasn’ t fixing trucks, he visited Internet cafes. That’s all there was to do.
While playing video games, he started experimenting with a vocal style known as “hanmai, ” or “microphone shouting.” When streaming started to take off, he developed his own show.
In 2014, he founded Wudi. Between his show and the business, he now often brings in more than $100,000 a month, he said.
To keep the agency growing, he needs a constant supply of rookies, so Yu is all about proteges. Spend a day with him and you’ ll meet a half-dozen. Each, in turn, has proteges of their own, forming a protege pyramid of sorts.
Among them: Lu Yongzhi, 26, a cattle-trader-turned-live-streamer whose farmer stepfather doesn’ t watch his show because he doesn’ t own a computer and can’ t use a smartphone.
“I told the village my son made money doing this and they didn’ t believe me, ” his stepfather, Lu Guofu, said.
Now they do. When the younger Lu started out, he was sleeping on a friend’s floor and broadcasting eight hours a day, often for pocket change. A couple of years after signing with Yu, he eats breakfast in Balenciaga sneakers and pulls in thousands a month, he said.
And that’s what keeps the newbies coming. It’s free to open a live-stream account but it is tough to get viewers. Streamers like Lu spend a portion of their shows giving shout-outs or stage time to hopefuls further down the pyramid — exposure, usually for a price.
On a recent broadcast, Yu showcased two young, female prospects. One was in her early 20s and so nervous she could barely sing her song — a ditty about wanting to “eat, eat, eat” but not get fat.
The second performed confidently, listening patiently as Yu gave her tips.
At one point, he cracked a joke about breasts. They sang on.
The rise of stars like Yu has turned the streaming boom into a digital gold rush. Teenagers quit school to strike it rich; farmers leave their land to try their luck.
The lure of fast, easy money brings out the odd and extreme: a woman known as  Gourmet Sister Feng made her name by eating goldfish and glass, among other things.
Aspiring stars ask surgeons to give them an “ online star face ”— high forehead, round eyes, long nose, thin jaw — and use creams to keep their skin a cadaverous shade of white.
Yu is often asked to weigh in on plastic surgery. “It is normal to want to be beautiful, ” he said. “As long as you don’ t do big surgeries, Botox, injections, fillers and skin whitening are fine.”
With looks playing a big role, China’s censors try to draw a line between sexy and sexually suggestive. Last year, amid a crackdown on live content, they banned the “seductive” eating of bananas.
Some live-streamers worry that ever-changing rules will make it tough to make money, but the real problem, it seems, is the pay structure.
For every $1,000 in virtual gifts you earn, you might see a few hundred dollars, streamers said, with YY taking 50 percent and your agency or manager taking 20 to 30 percent more.
The lifestyle, meanwhile, can be grueling.
Lu Mingming, a 25-year-old rookie, spends four hours a day alone in a studio packed with plush toys. The hardest part of her new job, she said, was mustering the energy to appear cute and happy for hours on end, often seven days a week.
“They want to see you singing from the heart, ” she said.
While they broadcast, messages from viewers flash across the screen in real time. Some comments are encouraging, others are not. Fans tend to want the same old songs again and again, Lu said.
Several streamers said it was tough to come up with fresh material when they spent most of their waking hours inside, alone. Lu Yongzhi, the former cattle trader with the flashy sneakers, calls his new life “very boring.”
Even Yu, sitting in a home heavy on chandeliers, living the live-stream dream, was skeptical.
When he started streaming it was the Wild West of China’s Internet. He felt free to say what he wanted, he had fun.
Now he has a reputation and a business at stake, and the censors are paying attention. In recent months, Chinese authorities have shut down entire platforms and individual accounts.
“In the past, even though I didn’ t have money, I could do whatever I wanted. Now, I have to watch every word I say, ” he said.
His advice to newcomers was to focus on developing their talent rather than trying to get famous fast by making a scene. “Don’ t put fireworks in your pants, ” he said.
