Chinese smartphone maker; ZTE Corp. is joining the likes of Apple, Google, Huawei, LG in manufacturing wearables, as the company is reportedly working on its first smartwatch to run Android Wear, dubbed Quartz which is said to come with Bluetooth certification under the model number ZW10, Wi-Fi as well as 3G connectivity, allowing for data access when it’s not paired to a smartphone as well as taking calls on your wrist.
The specs for the watch haven’t yet been mentioned/seen anywhere or when it will/expected to be launched.
According to VentureBeat , ZTE showed off two watches; Venus 1 and Venus 2 at Mobile World Congress last year, although they were considered primarily activity trackers that lack the robustness of a full wearable platform. Still, it would make sense for ZTE to follow up that cautious debut by unveiling the more advanced Quartz at MWC 2017 later this month.
VentureBeat continued to mention that the company already has a Quartz: a 5.5-inch, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean-powered smartphone which will luckily pair up with the upcoming smartwatch.
The smartwatch is said to pair with Android devices running on versions v4.3 and higher or iOS versions v8.2.
While ZTE still works on its smartwatch, according to sources from GSMArena , Google is expected to launch their Android Wear 2.0 today, while LG official introduces its LG Watch Sport and Watch Style, the first devices to run the new software release from day one.
