Is the timing right for Google’s Pixel Buds and Clip camera?

0

DT’s Andy Boxall on a couple of suspect Google products, Microsoft ports Edge browser to iOS and Android phones, the ThinkPad laptop turns 25.
Det är en kamera som tar bilder av ditt liv
After reviewing the slate of new hardware presented by Google at yesterday’s event, a couple of… unusual… products stand out: the language translating Pixel Buds earbuds and the Google Clips camera. The on-stage demos were pretty slick, especially for the Pixel Buds, which Google claims can essentially translate spoken languages in near real-time – the Star Trek Universal Translator made real.
But will it work in real life? Executing a rehearsed demo is one thing, executing a major language faux paus in another country due to an inaccurate translation is quite another. Suffice to say, real world use is needed to truly test this tech and we’re planning to bring you an in-depth evaluation as soon as it comes out.
As for the Google Clips camera, a sort-of life-logging device, DT’s Andy Boxall is asking the question perhaps few others are: Who wants this kind of tech? And why did Google think it was a good plan to make it into a product right now? They certainly aren’t the first to market with the life logger idea, and we can’t say the form factor lends itself to a public buying frenzy – but who knows? Check out Andy’s somewhat contrarian take on Google’s new toys.
Phone on Edge
In case you don’t already have enough web browsers on your iPhone or Android phone, good news: You can now add Microsoft’s minimalist Edge browser to the pack. Because, hey, the more the… browsier, I guess. Anyway, the Edge app does come with a very useful feature known as “continue on PC,” which will push the page you’re on to a computer – well, a Windows computer – for a more desktop experience if you feel the need for it.
That’s pretty cool, but will it help Microsoft put a dent in Chrome’s desktop and mobile browser dominance? Time will tell of course, but we’re willing to at least give it a try. Go here to see how you can give your mobile phone some Edge.
Internet? What’s that?
Hey, want to buy a laptop? Check it out: It runs at 100 meghertz, has 8 megabytes of RAM (expandable to 40 megabytes), has a color LCD screen and best of all, it even plays CD-ROMs. And all for just a tick under $8,000 fully optioned up. Such a deal, right? Well it was in 1992, when the first ThinkPad laptop, the model 700C, hit the market, ostensibly ushering in the age of the modern (and capable) business laptop PC.
Then called an “IBM Thinkpad,” the iconic black-box-with-that-red-dot design has defined “business laptop” ever since, and ThinkPad caretaker Lenovo is honoring the long line of machines with a throwback version of sorts, called the T470. Sure, it looks sort of the same, but the rest of the machine is thoroughly up to date with a solid state hard drive, HD display, and a real-world price tag under $2,000 with all the options.
Sadly, there’s no 2X CD-ROM drive (or a disk drive of any sort), but there’s no denying the influence ThinkPads have had over the years, so we’ve picked out the best of the many versions that have come out over the years and collected interviews with the people who brought the originals to market. And do check out the great video by SiliconClassics on YouTube as they put a vintage ThinkPad Model 755 through its paces.
We’ve got more news on our Facebook page and YouTube channel, and be sure to tune in to this week’s DT podcasts: Close to the Metal (computers and such) on Tuesday, Trends with Benefits (general tech shenanigans) on Thursdays, and Between the Streams (movie and TV topics) every Friday.

Puerto Rico’s health care system ‘is on life support’

Two weeks after Hurricane Marie slammed Puerto Rico, medical officials say the health care system on the beleaguered island “is on life support” — with only one cardio-thoracic surgeon still operating in the US territory.
Dr. Orlando Lopez de Victoria of the Auxillo Mutuo Hospital in San Juan said before Hurricane Maria there were 10 heart surgeons on the island of 3.4 million.
Some, he said, left the island while others can’t operate because of poor conditions at storm-damaged hospitals and clinics.
“I decided to stay because I love my country, my family and my patients,” he told USA Today, which reported on the deteriorating conditions two days after President Trump paid a short visit to the commonwealth.
Trump met with residents in a wealthy and relatively undamaged suburb of San Juan, where he tossed paper towels into a crowd and boasted about the “unbelievable” and “incredible” job his administration was doing to help Puerto Rico recover.
On Monday, Lopez de Victoria operated on a patient whose transfer to the hospital had to be delayed because there was no gasoline for generators, the paper reported.
By the time she arrived at the hospital she was so week she did not survive the procedure.
“We have hospitals that are working, but eventually we are going to have to transfer patients,” said Carlos Méndez, an administrator at the hospital, considered to be one of the island’s top medical facilities.
The USA Today report said that patients are dying because of complications caused by the conditions on the island, where most people remain without power and many still have no running water.
Damaged roadways and the lack of transportation also make it harder to move patients around or get them to the facilities where they can be treated.
With communications still out or at best spotty in many areas, there is a lack of communication and coordination among medical professionals at different facilities.
Doctors don’t want to discharge sick or injured patients after surgery or treatment because of the unsanitary conditions in many areas.
Health officials in Puerto Rico on Wednesday inspected the US Naval Hospital Ship Comfort as it docked in San Juan.
With 1,000 beds, it’s the largest floating medical facility in the US military and will be used to provide more care for the
island’s residents.
Of Puerto Rico’s 69 hospitals, about 64 are operating, though not at 100 percent, the paper reported.
Only 17 have power from the island’s antiquated grid while the others are operating on generator power.
Méndez’s hospital has Puerto Rico’s only fully functioning ward for cardio-thoracic surgery, and he said the Comfort arrived as the island’s health system was “right now is on life support.”

Microsoft is bringing its Edge browser to Android and iOS

0

While Microsoft is still officially working on the mobile version of Windows 10, it’s no secret that the company has all but given up on building its own..
While Microsoft is still officially working on the mobile version of Windows 10, it’s no secret that the company has all but given up on building its own mobile ecosystem. That only leaves Microsoft with one option: concede defeat and bring its applications to the likes of Android and iOS. That’s exactly what the company has been doing for the last few years and today the company announced that its Edge browser (the successor to the much — and often justly — maligned Internet Explorer) will soon come to iOS and Android, too. The company is also graduating its Arrow Launcher for Android and renaming it to Microsoft Launcher.
Even though Microsoft basically doesn’t play in the mobile OS and hardware space anymore, it still needs to have a presence on rival platforms if it doesn’t want to risk losing its relevancy on the desktop, too. Edge and the Microsoft Launcher are both key to this strategy because they’ll help the company to extend the Microsoft Graph even further. The Graph is Microsoft’s cross-platform system for allowing you to sync the state of your work and documents across devices and the company sees it as key to the future of Windows.
It’s no surprise then that this new version of Edge promises to make it easier to connect your PC and mobile device, with easy syncing of your browser sessions and other features.
For now, though, Edge for iOS and Android remain previews that you can sign up for here. The Android version will be available as a beta in the Google Play store soon and the iOS version will be made available through Testflight in the near future, too.
It’s worth noting that Microsoft won’t bring its own rendering engine to these platforms. Instead, it’ll rely on WebKit on iOS and the Blink engine on Android (and not the Android WebView control). On Android, this means that Microsoft is now actually shipping its own version of the Blink engine inside its app — and that’s not something we expected to hear anytime soon.
As for the launcher, it’s worth noting that it’s actually a quite capable Android launcher that nicely integrates with all of the Google apps you probably use every day (calendar, Gmail, etc.). Microsoft’s version of the Google Feed, that left-most homescreen on your Android device, is actually quite useful, too, and puts your calendar and other info front and center whereas Google now uses it for a general news feed.

Microsoft Edge comes to Android and iOS devices for Windows Insiders

While Microsoft’s Edge browser might be trailing well behind the likes of Chrome and Firefox in terms of overall popularity and market share, the company is still eager to get their proprietary browser in front of as many potential users as possible. To do so, Microsoft will be releasing Edge on iOS and Android devices in beta form.
Edge’s mobile version mirrors its desktop counterpart in many ways. With a simple, minimalist design and the ability to view trending news stories directly from the new tab screen. The familiarity alone should make the transition easy for anyone who regularly uses Edge on their PC.
The biggest draw for potential Edge mobile users will likely be the app’s „continue on PC“ feature. This allows users to seamlessly switch from Edge on iOS or Android to the Windows 10 version, picking up right where they left off. This should make it easy to circumvent poorly-optimized mobile websites or frustrating mobile pop-up ads.
According to Microsoft, your favorites, passwords, and other settings will also continuously sync in the background between devices, allowing for even fewer interruptions to your browsing flow.
To sign up for the Edge mobile beta, you’ll need access to a Windows 10 PC with the Fall Creators Update installed. From there, sign up for the Windows Insiders program and visit the Edge mobile beta page to select your mobile OS.
iOS users will gain access to the beta via Apple’s TestFlight service, whereas Android users will soon be able to check it out through the Google Play Store’s app testing functionality.

Netflix raises prices for first time in two years

0

The £1 or $2 a month increases for a premium subscription are the first for two years.
Netflix has raised prices in countries including the UK and US for the first time in two years.
The streaming video service will also increase subscription charges in some European countries, a spokeswoman said.
A standard UK plan will rise 50p to £7.99 a month, while a premium subscription for four simultaneous users, jumps £1 to £9.99 a month.
The standard US plan increases by $1 to $10.99 a month, with a $2 rise to $13.99 for the premium option.
The increases apply immediately for new customers, while existing users will be notified of the change 30 days in advance.
Germany and France are among the other countries where prices will rise. Subscriptions were tweaked in Canada, Latin America and some Nordic countries earlier this year.
Netflix said in July it has 104 million subscribers globally, while revenues rose 32% in the second quarter to $2.8bn.
Shares in Netflix rose 5% in New York, bringing the stock’s gain this year to 56%.
The price rises come as Netflix faces growing competition from Amazon and other sites such as Hulu in the US.
The company continues to spending heavily on original programming such as The Crown, Stranger Things and House of Cards.
It also promises 40 feature films this year ranging from „big-budget popcorn films to grassroots independent cinema“.
One of those titles Mudbound, which Variety describes as „an epic about race and poverty in the 1940s Mississippi Delta“, starring Mary J. Blige and Carey Mulligan.
The film, which premiered at the Toronto film festival last month, is available to stream from 17 November – the same day it opens in some US cinemas.
Some critics say it is a contender for the Academy Awards and would be the first Netflix feature to be in the Oscars race.

From Gandhi to guns: An Indian woman explores the NRA convention

0

Guns are not a part of the culture of my homeland, except perhaps for the occasional Bollywood movie in which the bad guy meets his demise staring down the wrong end of a barrel.
I grew up not knowing a single gun owner, and even today India has one of the strictest gun laws on the planet. Few Indians buy and keep firearms at home, and gun violence is nowhere near the problem it is in the United States. An American is 12 times more likely than an Indian to be killed by a firearm, according to a recent study.
It’s no wonder then that every time I visit India, my friends and family want to know more about America’s „love affair“ with guns.
I get the same questions when I visit my brother in Canada or on my business travels to other countries, where many people remain perplexed, maybe even downright mystified, by Americans‘ defense of gun rights.
I admit I do not fully understand it myself, despite having become an American citizen nearly a decade ago. So when I learn the National Rifle Association is holding its annual convention here in Atlanta, right next to the CNN Center, I decide to go and find out more.
My eyes open wide inside the vast and cavernous Georgia World Congress Center. I take in countless exhibits by the firearms industry and even check out a few guns. Among them are the Mossberg Blaze.22 semiautomatic Rimfire Rifle and an FN 509 semi-automatic 9mm pistol.
I’ve never had the desire to own a gun. I try hard to experience the excitement of others who are admiring these products.
Around me are 80,000 of America’s fiercest patriots and defenders of guns. Many are wearing American flag attire and T-shirts with slogans like: „Veterans before refugees“ and „God loves guns.“
Few people here look like me. Most appear to be white and male. Many view the media, including my employer, with disdain — and they do not hesitate to let me know.
I walk around with some trepidation, but I’m determined to strike up conversations. I begin with this question: „Why do you want to own an object that can kill another human being?“
The answers are varied, but they center on three main themes: freedom, self-defense and sport. The first type of response is rooted in the Second Amendment to the US Constitution, which allows for the ownership of more than 300 million guns in America. How many other countries have the right to bear arms written into their very foundation? It’s unique and because of that, foreigners often have trouble grasping it.
I meet Chris Styskal at a booth set up by the NRA Wine Club. Yes, a wine club for the almost 5 million members of the organization.
„Eat, sleep, go fishing. Drink, sleep, go shooting. In that order,“ Styskal jokes.
But then we get into serious talk. Gun ownership, he tells me, has its roots in the birth of this country.
„George Washington’s army fought off the British with rifles,“ he says. „They overthrew an oppressive government.“
His statement gives me pause. The gun laws in India stem from colonial rule, when the British aimed to quell their subjects by disarming them. Perhaps my Indian compatriots should consider the right to own guns from this perspective.
Styskal, 41, earned a degree in psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and tells me the prevailing belief that gun owners are not educated is simply wrong. He owns a collection of rifles and pistols at his home in Port Carbon, Pennsylvania, and last year he fired 100 rounds every week at a shooting range.
He says the Second Amendment is about much more than the right to bear arms. It’s about freedom.
„We don’t want any government telling us what we can and cannot do.“
It’s a thought echoed by Brickell „Brooke“ Clark, otherwise known as the American Gun Chic. She has a website by that name and also a YouTube channel. Both are bathed in hues of pink and dedicated to her recently formed passion for guns.
I introduce myself to Clark as we await President Donald Trump’s arrival at the convention. The darkened room is booming with NRA clips bashing everyone from Hillary Clinton to George Clooney.
„What would you tell my friends in India who say Americans are infatuated with guns?“
„I wouldn’t say Americans have an obsession with guns,“ Clark says. „We have an obsession with being free.“
I ask what the Second Amendment means to her.
„It means I can live my life without anyone overpowering me,“ she says. „It makes me equal with everyone else.“
The great equalizer. I never thought of the Second Amendment in that way.
Self-protection, I discover, is a huge reason many Americans own firearms.
Take Chloe Morris. She was born in Atlanta to Filipino parents; on this day, she’s brought her mother along to hear Trump, the first sitting President to speak at an NRA convention since Ronald Reagan.
Morris is 35, petite and soft-spoken, but she’s fierce about her opinions on guns.
„I’m 5 feet tall and 100 pounds,“ she tells me. „I cannot wait for a cop to come save me when I am threatened with rape or death.“
Morris was once opposed to guns. „Extremely opposed,“ she says.
She earned a master’s degree in criminal justice from Georgia State University. „I know the law,“ she says. „For me guns were not the answer.“
But a few years ago, a dear friend was assaulted in her own home in an upscale Atlanta subdivision. The incident struck fear in Morris. She would never let herself become a victim.
She took shooting classes and became a Glock instructor. „I teach for free. I want women to be safe.
„I own 10 guns. I have a 14-year-old son. I started teaching him to shoot when he was 5. I’m a lifetime member of the NRA.“
She pauses, and her next sentence surprises me.
„I don’t think I can even kill another person — except when my life is in danger.“
In a way, I understand her position. My first real exposure to guns came after I embedded with the US Army and Marines to report the Iraq War. As a journalist I never carried a weapon, though soldiers coaxed me to learn how to shoot an M16. My conversation with Morris reminded me of a night when we came under threat, and the platoon sergeant placed a 9mm pistol on my Humvee seat. I refused to take it but knew instantly what he was trying to tell me. What if I were the last one alive? How would I save myself?
Luckily, we were safe that night. But I’ve always wondered how I might have acted under a dreadful scenario.
Other NRA members I speak with also tell me they don’t trust the police to arrive in time when they are in danger. Scott Long, 55, lives out in the country in Piketon, Ohio — 25 miles away from the county sheriff.
„The police can’t be there all the time,“ he says, looking at his wife, DeeDee, and their three young children, whom he’s brought along to the convention for a mini family vacation. Their son Brody, 9, has been shooting at the pellet range and is excited about his first 20-gauge shotgun.
„Where we live, we can shoot in our backyard,“ says Long, who owns 25 guns and is enjoying checking out all the shiny new weapons exhibited here.
Such remoteness, too, is alien to me. I grew up in a city that now brims with some 16 million people on a working day. Firing guns in my grandfather’s garden would not have been a good thing. I think about all the space we have in America. So many of us live far from other human beings. Like the Long family. Perhaps isolation adds to the need to own guns.
I move forward in my quest to know more.
I hear gun proponents express a dislike for big government. They stress individual liberties over the collective. For people who live in more socialist countries, it’s another obstacle to understanding American gun culture.
Near a stairway emblazoned with a giant Beretta, I speak with Derrick Adams. He’s a 32-year-old electric lineman from Nottingham, Pennsylvania. He describes himself as part black, part Puerto Rican and part Caucasian.
„How many guns do you own?“ I ask.
„Not enough,“ he replies.
He picked up his first Glock when he was 22, and his first shot shattered a whole bunch of stereotypes.
„People look at guns as this evil tool whose job it is to kill,“ he says. „They’re not at all that. They are about protection.“
Adams believes that if all law-abiding citizens were armed, crime would drastically go down. He tells me that Chicago would not have such a high gun homicide rate if good folks in the inner cities were armed to fight „thugs and gangs.“
„Stop looking to government to help us. They are not our parents,“ Adams says.
Liberals in America who want more gun control, says Adams, want to keep minorities and poor people dependent on government. Gun control started after slavery ended and was a way to keep black people disarmed, he says.
„You idiots,“ Adams says, referring to all people of color. „It was invented to suppress you.“
He looks at me as though to say: You should know better.
Again, I think of colonialism in my homeland and how the British passed strict gun control to keep Indians from rising up.
Fighting tyranny and oppression is something Jaasiel Rubeck considers, too. The 29-year-old wife and mother from Columbus, Ohio, immigrated to this country from her native Venezuela when she was 6. People who live under authoritarian regimes should all understand the need to own a gun, she tells me.
Rubeck’s words remind me of a friend from Iraq who wished she could own a gun during Saddam Hussein’s rule. After he was overthrown, she slept with an AK-47 under her pillow at the height of the insurgency. She has always spoken of her love-hate relationship with guns. She wants to protect her family, but she is tired of the eternal violence plaguing her land. She wishes now that every gun would disappear from Iraq.
What I hear from speakers at the NRA convention, though, is that a peaceful world is a utopian fantasy — and that the need for guns will always exist.
„The NRA saved the soul of America,“ says Chris Cox, the executive director of the organization.
I leave the convention trying to reconcile what I’ve gathered on this day with the philosophy of nonviolence with which I was raised. I am not certain that vast cultural differences can be bridged in a few hours, but I am glad I got a glimpse into the world of guns. I have much to consider.

Officials dig in to Vegas shooter's high-stakes gambling

0

With few details known on the life and motivations of the Las Vegas shooter, authorities are looking into his background in high-limit video poker and casino comps.
Authorities trying to piece together the final days before Stephen Paddock unleashed his arsenal of powerful firearms on country music fans on the Las Vegas Strip have at least one potential trove of information: his gambling habits.
Nevada gambling regulators say they’re sorting through documents for clues about him and his girlfriend, Marilou Danley. Those can include suspicious transaction or currency reports, as well as information from a player’s rewards card, which the casinos use to track their gambling and offer perks.
Paddock’s brother has described the gunman as a high-stakes video poker player who was routinely comped rooms, meals and drinks at casinos.
„He was a substantial gambler. It was a job to him,“ Eric Paddock said.
A person who has seen Mandalay Bay hotel records that have been turned over to investigators said they show Paddock was given his room on the 32nd floor for free because he was a good customer who wagered tens of thousands of dollars each time he visited.
The individual was not authorized to speak publicly and disclosed the information to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
The massacre has brought new attention to the world of high-limit video poker and casino comps where high-rollers are given all sorts of free items to keep them gambling. The biggest gamblers — often known as whales — can get such perks as chartered planes, butlers and free lodging at a $35,000-a-night villa.
Paddock’s brother said he was not at that level, but he gambled enough that he got free rooms, poolside cabanas and high-end sushi meals exceeding $1,000.
„He won cars and $250,000 checks and all this stuff from the hotel,“ Eric Paddock said.
Video poker machines are a mainstay at casinos around Nevada, with most of the machines placed in bars where gamblers can play poker from their bar stools for 25 cents a hand. They look similar to slot machines.
Paddock favored the high-dollar variety version of the game, whose machines are separate from the main video poker and slot areas. Players like Paddock use strategies that can minimize the house winnings and in some cases gain a minuscule mathematical advantage.
Michael Shackleford, who runs a gambling strategy website called The Wizard of Odds, said based on what is known of Paddock’s life, the gunman seems to have been what the casinos refer to as a „premium mass“ player — one who bets in higher amounts, with a better understanding of the game than the typical player.
Premium mass players pay close attention to the odds in the game they’re playing and the payout, and they typically need access to a lot of money because they may have long dry spells where they lose exorbitant amounts.
Eventually, Shackleford said, if players stay true to a perfect strategy — one designed to maximize their performance over the long haul, such as by getting rid of potentially decent cards like low pairs to increase chances of a big-payout royal flush — their luck will turn, based on statistics, and they’ll break even or come close to it.
When you add in the freebies from the casino, the player can come out ahead.
„Vegas is full of people that are basically just gambling for free,“ Shackleford said. „I think the shooter was one of these people who was basically milking the system, getting free vacations.“
Why do the casinos have games where the players can come out ahead?
„It’s because there are so many bad players,“ Shackleford said. „For every skilled player, there are probably 100 lousy players. They subsidize the skilled players.“
The stress of having so much on the line isn’t for everyone, he said.
„In any form of gambling, you need a strong stomach and you need to have a very cool head about the ups and down,“ he said. „If this guy was a millionaire, it’s quite possible he was not bothered by the ups and down. He probably had steel nerves and was a difficult person to move emotionally.“
It’s unknown how much he wagered, but he apparently had been wagering more than $10,000 a day in some cases.
A. G. Burnett, the head of Nevada’s Gaming Control Board, said investigators are looking for enforcement actions, for any disputes Paddock may have had as a casino patron and at any federally required currency reports of transactions he made greater than $10,000.
Authorities have said Paddock used Danley’s loyalty rewards card with MGM Resorts International. The tiered program allows players to accumulate credits and get perks such as bonuses on points earned playing slots, priority hotel check-in and — for those who belong to the highest and by-invitation-only level — limousine service to and from the airport.
„(The casinos) know whether he lost money because he never would have gambled for a second without putting the card in,“ Eric Paddock said.

FedEx and UPS shares take a dive after reports Amazon will deliver more of its own items

FedEx and UPS shares took a dive after reports that Amazon is testing its own delivery service
UPS and FedEx shares took a dip Thursday in the wake of reports that Amazon is testing a new delivery service that may eventually allow the online giant to bypass those shipping companies and ferry its own items from the warehouse to the front door.
UPS shares were down 2% and FedEx shares dropped 0.6% after a Bloomberg report that Amazon is planning to expand a delivery service that it’s already using in India, and currently testing on the West Coast, to more customers in the U. S. next year.
Amazon, whose stock was up 0.8%, could not be immediately reached for comment.
The new service is dubbed Seller Flex, according to Bloomberg citing an unidentified source. Such a system could enable Amazon — which disrupted traditional brick and mortar retail with its e-commerce model and is shaking up the grocery space with its recent $13.7 billion purchase of Whole Foods — to eventually roil the players who have long dominated the package shipping business.
The Bloomberg report says that the new delivery service would specifically ferry packages that are sold on Amazon’s website by third parties.
Jeff Lau, COO of TPS Logistics says this may be just the beginning. „Amazon can now use vendor managed space and inventory as essentially their own fulfillment centers,“ he said in an email. „What we suspect is that their own equipment will shortly follow once service data is gathered from this roll-out.“
Amazon has been steadily pushing for more control of its logistics. In 2014, a year after delivery snags prevented some of its orders from being delivered in time for Christmas, Amazon bought a 4.2% stake in the U. K. shipping service Yodel, as well as a 25% stake in Colis Prive, a parcel delivery business based in France. The following year Amazon became the full owner of the French company.
Amazon also bought thousands of trailers in 2015 that it stamped with its brand in order to carry orders from its over 50 U. S. fulfillment centers, to hubs where its employees sort the packages by zip code. Reports also surfaced that year that Amazon was negotiating with Boeing to lease 20 767 freighter jets in order to possibly launch its own air cargo line
Playing a bigger role in the delivery process can save Amazon money, enable it to accommodate more customers, and give the company more control over how fast packages get to its lucrative Prime members. In 2014, it spent $8.7 billion on shipping, more than double what it earned from sales of products that need to be transported to customers homes.
In a statement, UPS said „Amazon is a valued UPS customer. We support all our customers with industry-leading e-commerce solutions and expect to expand these relationships further in the future.“
FedEx spokesman Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement that the company doesn’t comment on speculation.
But he added that there’s „a clear misunderstanding of the scale, infrastructure and complexity involved in running a global transportation network. FedEx and other transportation providers are innovating as it relates to new services for e-commerce residential deliveries, but that is only one piece of the capabilities that we provide. Demand for our global portfolio continues to grow.”
