Microsoft Edge coming to Android and iOS

Microsoft today addresses one of the biggest shortcomings of its Edge browser, announcing its upcoming availability on the two biggest mobile platforms: Android and iOS.
Microsoft today addresses one of the biggest shortcomings of its Edge browser, announcing its upcoming availability on the two biggest mobile platforms: Android and iOS.
Microsoft says that support for Android and iOS is „one of the most common requests“ that it has received from Edge users on Windows 10. By making it available across multiple platforms, the software giant is making its browser a viable option in this space for folks who use a mix of devices.
Edge is also available on Windows 10 Mobile, but the vast majority of mobile users are on Android and iOS. What’s more, its biggest rivals are already available on multiple platforms. Take Chrome for example, which is offered on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS and Linux.
„Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android brings familiar features like your Favorites, Reading List, New Tab Page and Reading View across your PC and phone, so, no matter the device, your browsing goes with you,“ says Microsoft. „But what makes Microsoft Edge really stand out is the ability to continue on your PC, which enables you to immediately open the page you’re looking at right on your PC — or save it to work on later.“
Microsoft will make Edge available initially as a preview, with iOS users being the first to get it — starting today. The browser will be distributed using Apple’s TestFlight service. There is no word yet on when it will also be offered on Android, but Microsoft does say that the app will be available „soon.“
The preview is limited to US-English, but support for other countries and languages will be added down the road. Also, Microsoft says that there are some features that will not be available from the get-go, like roaming passwords and support for tablets, but those too will be made available „in the future.“
If you want to be the among the first to test Microsoft Edge on Android or iOS, click on this link to go to the preview program’s landing page.
Now, if only Microsoft would bring it to macOS as well…

Investigation continues into crash that killed first responder

0

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Griswold Street Baptist Church.
The investigation into the crash that killed a local paramedic and firefighter is ongoing, said St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon.
Donnellon said investigators have to wait for toxicology results in the crash that killed 36-year-old Jon-Marc Chandler on Tuesday morning.
Police have said Chandler was southbound on Wadhams Road near Tripp Road when he was struck by a northbound pickup driven by a 45-year-old St. Clair Township man. The man, a child and dog in his vehicle, were not injured.
Chandler was a paramedic with Tri-Hospital EMS for nearly 14 years as well as a firefighter for Fort Gratiot since May 2011. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Donations are being accepted for the family here: https://www.gofundme.com/help-support-the-chandler-family .
According to his obituary, Chandler was a 1999 Port Huron High School graduate and made many mission trips to Mali, Africa.
„Jon-Marc loved life and loved serving people. Above all, he was a wonderful family man who loved being a dad,“ his obituary reads.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Griswold Street Baptist Church. Chandler will be buried at Caswell Cemetery in Kimball Township.
In May, Chandler was honored with a Star of Life award from the Michigan Association of Ambulance Services in Lansing for his work.

Trump rages at NBC News, calls for Senate investigation

„Why Isn’t the Senate Intel Committee looking into the Fake News Networks in OUR country to see why so much of our news is just made up-FAKE!“
President Donald Trump continued to simmer over an NBC News report that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called him a “moron” and that Vice President Mike Pence had to stage an intervention to keep him from resigning.
The exclusive from NBC News was still annoying Trump enough on Thursday that he devoted a pair of tweets bashing the “fake news” — and once again called out the network by name. He also suggested a Senate investigation into the matter.
“Why Isn’t the Senate Intel Committee looking into the Fake News Networks in OUR country to see why so much of our news is just made up-FAKE!” said Trump. “Rex Tillerson never threatened to resign. This is Fake News put out by @NBCNews. Low news and reporting standards. No verification from me.”

On Wednesday, shortly after the news dropped, Tillerson held an awkward press conference at the State Department in which he refuted claims that he considered resigning and blasted the press for focusing on “petty” things.
“To address a few specifics that have been erroneously reported this morning, the vice president has never had to persuade me to remain as Secretary of State, because I have never considered leaving this post,” said Tillerson.
Trump spent a good part of yesterday morning fuming over the allegations as well and took to Twitter almost immediately after Tillerson’s remarks to declare the issue settled.
… But if today is any indication — it’s probably not!

Trump wants Senate to probe ‘fake news networks’

President Trump questioned early Thursday why the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is probing Russian interference in the presidential election, wasn’t also targeting “Fake News Networks.”
“Why Isn’t the Senate Intel Committee looking into the Fake News Networks in OUR country to see why so much of our news is just made up-FAKE!” Trump tweeted.
His comments come a day after the committee’s chairman, Richard Burr, said the panel “has more work to do” to determine whether there was collusion between Russian officials and Team Trump during the 2016 presidential election.
“The committee continues to look into all evidence to see if there was any hint of collusion,” Burr said at a Capitol Hill news conference, where he stood alongside the committee’s top Democrat, Mark Warner of Virginia.
The news conference underscored that the probe is expanding and is not shying away from the question of collusion — which the president has repeatedly dismissed as a “hoax.”
Trump often attacks the media and targets certain networks or articles as “fake news.”
On Thursday, he continued to deny an NBC News report that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called him a “moron” and had threatened to quit.
“Rex Tillerson never threatened to resign. This is Fake News put out by @NBCNews. Low news and reporting standards. No verification from me,” he wrote.
On Wednesday, he tweeted: “NBC news is #FakeNews and more dishonest than even CNN. They are a disgrace to good reporting. No wonder their news ratings are way down!”
Shortly after, Tillerosn held a press conference in which he insisted he had never considered quitting – though he refused to deny calling Trump a “moron.”
Trump also commented about his trip to Las Vegas, where he met with victims of the deadliest mass shooting in US history, as well as first responders who helped save their lives.
“So wonderful to be in Las Vegas yesterday and meet with people, from police to doctors to the victims themselves, who I will never forget!” he tweeted.
And he exulted about the stock market’s “ALL-TIME high.”
“Unemployment lowest in 16 years! Business and manufacturing enthusiasm at highest level in decades!” he tweeted.

Japanese reporter died after clocking 159 hours of overtime

Japan’s public broadcaster NHK has revealed that one of its reporters died from overwork.
Japan’s public broadcaster has revealed that one of its reporters died from overwork.
NHK said that labor officials had concluded that the 31-year-old political reporter died from heart failure caused by spending long hours on the job.
Japan, known for its ’salaryman‘ culture and punishing work hours, has struggled for years to tackle the impact of overwork on employees‘ health. A government study published last year found that one in five workers is at risk of working themselves to death.
Excessive hours are such a big problem that there’s even a Japanese word for death by overwork: karoshi .
According to a news story published by NHK, Miwa Sado had worked 159 hours of overtime in the month before her death.
The circumstances of Sado’s death in 2013 had not been made public until this week.
NHK said it was taking the death of its employee very seriously. The broadcaster has pledged to reform the way its reporters work.
The 2015 suicide of another Japanese worker, Matsuri Takahashi, had previously been linked to overwork.
Japanese regulators found that she had been forced to work excessively long hours at an advertising agency, clocking about 105 hours of overtime in the month leading up to her death. The extreme schedule resulted in her suicide, they ruled.
The CEO of the ad company resigned over the issue .
Labor lawyers and citizens groups have for decades pushed for changes to Japanese law to recognize karoshi as a serious social issue. Their efforts resulted in a 2014 law that called for better working conditions but didn’t force companies to act.
–Yoko Wakatsuki and Jethro Mullen contributed to this report.

‘Tonight Show’: Miley Cyrus Fights Back Tears Reading Thank-You Note to Hillary Clinton (Video)

0

The pop star and several female writers from ‚The Tonight Show‘ read personal thank-you notes to Clinton during Wednesday’s show,
Cyrus — who campaigned for Clinton by knocking on college dorm room doors during the 2016 campaign — fought back tears as she thanked Clinton for being a “beacon of strength, hope, and determination for me and millions of other young women.”
“You’ve been a role model and an inspiration, and a voice of reason in uncertain times,” Cyrus added. “I could go on and on, but I’d like to get right to the point. Can I give you a hug?”
A half-dozen writers from Fallon’s team also addressed thank-you notes to Clinton.
“Thank you Hillary, for all the work you’ve done for public health care,” said Jo, one of Fallon’s writers. “Ever since the election, I’ve really depended on my government-subsidized anti-anxiety medication.”
Caroline, another writer, thanked Clinton for showing girls that “politics is not a popularity contest, because if it were, you would have won by about 3 million votes.”
Clinton herself also stepped behind the desk to read a thank-you note of her own.
“Thank you Miley, ‘Tonight Show’ writers, and all the young girls out there,” Clinton began. “You are smart, strong, and deserving of every opportunity. Together, we’ve made our voices heard, we’ve done great things, and we’ve come a long way. But as Miley would say, we can’t stop, and we won’t stop.”
Cyrus was a vocal celebrity supporter of Clinton during the campaign, at one point calling her “a total goddess” on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show.
But after Donald Trump’s eventual victory, the pop star took to social media to tearfully congratulate him, and said she was disappointed that she likely would never see Clinton become the country’s first female president.
Cyrus also vowed to move out of the United States if Trump won the election, only to take back the pledge late last month.
“I’m not leaving the country, that’s dumb. Because that’s me abandoning my country when I think I’ve got a good thing to say to my country,” she told NME magazine. “Wherever I am, my voice is going to be heard, and I’ll make sure of it.”

TK: Nowelizacja ustawy o kuratorach jest niekonstytucyjna

0

Za niezgodną z konstytucją – z powodu nieprawidłowości w procesie legislacyjnym – uznał w czwartek Trybunał Konstytucyjny zmianę ustawy o kuratorach sądowych z lipca 2015 r. Prezydent Andrzej Duda skierował tę ustawę do TK – w ramach kontroli prewencyjnej – w sierpniu 2015 r.
Trybunał rozpoznał sprawę w pełnym składzie. Zdania odrębne do wyroku odnoszące się do składu orzekającego w sprawie zgłosiły – sędzia TK Małgorzata Pyziak-Szafnicka i sędzia TK Sławomira Wronkowska-Jaśkiewicz.

2 million may die if North Korea nukes Seoul and Tokyo – report

0

As tensions rise on the Korean Peninsula, a new report has estimated that, should North Korea deploy its nuclear arsenal on Seoul and Tokyo, the death toll could be up to 2.1 million, with around 8 million injured.
Over the past few months, the stand-off, with Pyongyang on one side, and the US and its allies on the other, has been escalating, with belligerent rhetoric and provocative military posturing on both sides. Amid these tensions, a study by 38 North – a site on North Korean affairs run by Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies – has revealed the potential consequences of a nuclear strike launched by the North on its neighbors.
The report’s author, Michael J. Zagurek Jr., notes that “history is replete with ‘rational actors’ grossly miscalculating, especially in crisis situations,” and that another nuclear or missile test might trigger a hostile reaction from the United States, prompting a nuclear strike from the North Korean regime.
Estimating that Pyongyang has a nuclear arsenal of 25 warheads, Zagurek calculated what would happen if leader Kim Jong-un decides to launch all of them at Seoul and Tokyo, since both Japan and South Korea are key US allies. Accounting for missile defense systems such as the THAAD, deployed in South Korea, and the Aegis Ashore ABM, due to be installed in Japan, he said that “not all 25 North Korean nuclear missile warheads will detonate on their targets.”
Zagurek gave estimates of the casualty rates from 20 percent, 50 percent and 80 percent of the missiles hitting their targets. According to the highest estimates, 2.1 million people would be killed and another 7.7 million wounded.
Japan is the only country to have had two atomic bombs detonate on its territory as an act of war. On August 6,1945, an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed nuclear weapon over Hiroshima, Japan, killing 80,000 and obliterating 90 percent of the city. This was followed three days later by another bomb dropped on Nagasaki, which killed another 40,000. Earlier that year, Tokyo was firebombed by American planes, leading to 100,000 civilian deaths.
However, as the report notes, population density in metropolitan Japan and South Korea is a lot higher than it was several decades ago. Also, the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki had a strength of around 15-25 kilotons, while the device tested by North Korea in September had a likely strength of 108-205 kilotons.
The situation on the Korean Peninsula is being aggravated by both North Korea and the US and its allies. Pyongyang has carried out a number of nuclear tests and missile launches, while the United States has continued to carry out joint exercises with South Korea and Japan while escalating its rhetoric against Pyongyang.
Russia and China have proposed a ‘double-freeze’ solution, in which the US ceases its drills with South Korea in exchange for the North suspending its weapons programs. The US, however, has not accepted the proposal, saying it has every right to carry out exercises with its allies.
Moscow and Beijing have repeatedly stated that the crisis can be resolved only through peaceful means.
On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin also pointed out that should someone decide to attack North Korea in “a disarming strike,” the aftermath of it would be uncertain as “no one knows for sure what is where.”
Washington earlier said that it would only talk to Pyongyang about bringing back Americans who are being detained in North Korea.
“Beyond that, there will be no conversations with North Korea at this time,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders stated.

Bezrobocie najniższe od 1991 roku. Resort pokazał nowe dane

Sytuacja na rynku pracy coraz lepsza. Stopa bezrobocia rejestrowanego we wrześniu spadła poniżej 7 proc. Wyniosła 6,9 proc., czyli o 0,1 punktu procentowego…
Sytuacja na rynku pracy coraz lepsza. Stopa bezrobocia rejestrowanego we wrześniu spadła poniżej 7 proc. Rok temu bezrobocie we wrześniu wynosiło 8,3 proc.
Spadek liczby bezrobotnych we wrześniu br. został odnotowany w 15 województwach – najwyraźniej w lubelskim (o 2,5 proc.), lubuskim (o 2,4 proc.), małopolskim i świętokrzyskim (o 2,3 proc.). W stosunku do ubiegłego miesiąca oznacza to spadek o 0,2 tys. (0,2 proc.). Jednak w porównaniu z wrześniem ubiegłego roku należy mówić o wzroście na poziomie 10,8 proc. (15 tys. ofert więcej). Spadek liczby wolnych miejsc pracy we wrześniu br. miał miejsce w 10 województwach. Oscylował w przedziale od 0,1 proc. (spadek o 11 ofert) w województwie dolnośląskim do 13,7 proc. (spadek o 1,0 tys. ofert) w województwie zachodniopomorskim. Wzrost liczby ofert pracy odnotowano z kolei w 6 województwach.
