Xbox gamers may have had their details leaked online.
The Xbox360 and PSP ISOs, which host game download files, were hacked in September 2015. That’s according to security expert Troy Hunt’s Have I Been Pwned? website, which tracks data breaches.
Even if users didn’t have financial details stored on the sites, the information could be used to break into other sites if users have the same password for different accounts.
“Often people using seemingly low-security websites don’t enforce good password security because it’s not a financial target,” says Mark James, IT Security Specialist at ESET, “but all data has a value and will be reused for other purposes. Every website should be treated as unique and require different passwords with a mix of usernames if possible. ”
“Breach after breach has shown that using the same username and password for multiple sites is a bad idea,” says security expert Jonathan Sander of Lieberman Software. “If the Xbox and PSP crew haven’t learned that they can’t use the same email and password on every service by now, then likely it is game over for their personal data. ”

Apple CEO Tim Cook is one of the tech industry luminaries opposing President Trump’s immigration ban.
Apple CEO Tim Cook isn’t happy about President Donald Trump’s immigration ban and may be ready to mount a resistance. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal , Cook reiterated the company’s opposition to an executive order banning travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries to the US.
Although he wouldn’t be drawn on the possibility of legal action, Cook said he is pressing senior figures in the White House to repeal the order. Apple has also pledged to double any donations made by its employees to refugee relief funds.
“More than any country in the world, this country is strong because of our immigrant background and our capacity and ability as people to welcome people from all kinds of backgrounds. That’s what makes us special,” said Cook.
Apple and the White House have yet to respond to a request for comment.

TalkTalk’s chief executive Baroness Harding is to step down in the wake of poor handling of a 2015 data breach and a subsequent record fine from the Information Commissioner’s Office. TalkTalk is getting a shake-up at the top, following the announcement that Baroness Dido Harding is to step down as the company’s chief executive from May this year.
Chief executive at the company for seven years, Baroness Harding’s tenure at the company was not without controversy. Two major security breaches in 2015 while under her watch were bad enough, before it transpired that the company was at the very least ignoring industry best practices and at worst breaking UK and European laws on the protection of consumer data. ‘ It wasn’t encrypted, nor are you legally required to encrypt it, ‘ Baroness Harding famously – and entirely inaccurately – said in the wake of the second breach. ‘ We have complied with all of our legal obligations in terms of storing of financial information. ‘
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), however, disagreed with Baroness Harding’s abdication of responsibility for the protection of customer data. ‘ TalkTalk’s failure to implement the most basic cyber security measures allowed hackers to penetrate TalkTalk’s systems with ease, ‘ said Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham in her findings prior to levying a record £400,000 fine against the company. ‘ Yes hacking is wrong, but that is not an excuse for companies to abdicate their security obligations. TalkTalk should and could have done more to safeguard its customer information. It did not and we have taken action. ‘
Now, four months after the ICO ruling, Baroness Harding is out. ‘ After seven extraordinary and fulfilling years, during which we have transformed TalkTalk’s customer experience and laid the foundations for long term growth, I’ve decided it’s time for me to start handing over the reins at TalkTalk and focus more on my activities in public service, ‘ Baroness Harding claimed in a statement on the matter, pointedly not mentioning the comments made in defiance of the facts to the press in the wake of the hack nor the resulting fine from ICO.
Baroness Harding is to be replaced as chief executive by Tristia Harrison, the present managing director of TalkTalk’s consumer arm, while Charles Bligh, MD of the business arm, will become its chief operating officer. Former Dixons Carphone chairperson Charles Dunstone, meanwhile, is to shift from non-executive to executive chair.

Two officers of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and a cybercrime investigator from Kaspersky Lab have reportedly been charged with treason for helping U. S. intelligence services.
The arrests of Ruslan Stoyanov, the head of the computer incidents investigation team at Kaspersky, and Sergei Mikhailov, the deputy head of the Information Security Center at the FSB, happened in early December and were reported in the Russian media last week.
Since then, the arrest of a third FSB officer named Dmitry Dokuchayev, who also worked for the agency’s Information Security Center, came to light, and the investigation is said to have targeted even more people.
Ivan Pavlov, a Russian defense lawyer who specializes in treason cases, was cited by the Associated Press as saying that at least four people have been arrested in connection with the investigation. According to the news agency , the fourth defendant in the case is his client, but he declined to name him.
The suspects have been charged with state treason and cooperating with U. S. intelligence services, Reuters reported Wednesday, also citing Pavlov.
Russian newspaper Kommersant previously reported that Mikhailov and Stoyanov are accused of passing information to a foreign organization. It’s not clear when this is alleged to have happened, but Kaspersky Lab said in a statement that Stoyanov is under investigation for a period that predates his employment at the company.
Stoyanov joined Kaspersky Lab in 2012 after working for a cybercrime investigation firm called Indrik. Before that he worked for the Russian Ministry of Interior in the Moscow police department that investigates cybercrimes.
Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta reported last week, citing unnamed sources, that Mikhailov was arrested in front of his FSB colleagues during a meeting by agents who placed a bag over his head and escorted him out.
The U. S. intelligence community has accused Russia of trying to influence the November presidential elections by using hacking and planting fake news, accusations that the Russian government has denied.
