« Walter Shaub’s announcement that he is resigning as the head of the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) is deeply unnerving, » Warren said in a statement.
She said Shaub’s OGE replacement, who needs Senate confirmation for the post, must follow Shaub’s lead and stand up to government officials who « ignore ethics rules. »

Shaub, who had previously clashed with President Trump over his continued ties to his business interests, submitted his resignation earlier Thursday.
Shaub will be leaving the independent agency almost six months before his term expires with his last day being July 19, according to a letter Shaub wrote to Trump that he posted on his Twitter account.
“The great privilege and honor of my career has been to lead OGE’s staff and the community of ethics officials in the federal executive branch, ” Shaub wrote in the letter. “They are committed to protecting the principle that public service is a public trust, requiring employees to place loyalty to the Constitution, the laws, and ethical principals above private gain. »
Shaub has served at OGE under both Democratic and Republican administrations.
