China is reportedly urging North Korea to stop its missile and nuclear tests in the wake of a United Nations Security Council vote to increase sanctions on Pyongyang.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said while meeting with North Korea’s top diplomat that the country should “maintain calm,  » The Associated Press reported .
“Do not violate the U. N.’s decision or provoke international society’s goodwill by conducting missile launching or nuclear tests, ” Wang added.
Susan Thornton, the top U. S. diplomat for Asia, also said it’s important China is « continuing to implement fully the sanctions regime,  » according to the news service.
In recent weeks, President Trump has gone after China for not doing more to reign in the regime.
Late Saturday, the White House said Trump « commends » the security council for passing the resolution and praised China for its cooperation.
“The President appreciates China’s and Russia’s cooperation in securing passage of this resolution, ” the press secretary’s office said in a statement.
