Redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks has been named as Florida’s starting quarterback, the team announced Wednesday.
Florida has its starting quarterback.
After saying he wasn’t sure who would start under center for his team vs. Michigan — and that he might play three passers in the season-opener Saturday — Florida coach Jim McElwain named redshirt freshman Feleipe Franks as his starter this evening.

Franks, a 6-foot-6,219-pound redshirt freshman, has beaten out fifth-year senior graduate transfer Malik Zaire (from Notre Dame) and returning part-time starter Luke Del Rio.
A former four-star passer — and the No. 57-ranked recruit in the 2016 class — Franks sat out last season as a redshirt. Saturday will be his first college start and his first action overall as a college football player.
Michigan, meanwhile, has yet to formally announce a starting quarterback.
The Wolverines and Gators will meet at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday (3: 30 p.m., ABC) .
